When I first ran into this issue I thought it was only me. Since the BlackBerry Bold 9700 was launched I have been asked by a few people how to fix BlackBerry that is stuck in headset mode. Not sure what I mean? Here are the two main symptoms:
- Your BlackBerry shows the icon in the screenshot above when on a call
- You cannot hear the other party though callers can sometimes hear you
As you can see with a simple Google search there are many people who have run into this issue so I thought I would clear the air. What is happening on most of these phones is that a little bit of dirt or dust has lodged itself into the headphone jack making the phone think there is a headset or headphones connected. It usually happens to users who put their BlackBerrys in their pants pockets or purses without a case so they gather dust/dirt/grime. Based on how dirty the environment is this can happen repeatedly.
Luckily there is a quick fix! Simply take a can of compressed air and blow it into the headphone jack. Try making a phone call to see if it still shows the headset mode. If it does simply blow harder. A friend recommended using a toothpick to pull out dirt that is lodged in hard but it should not be necessary.
Let us know if it works for you or if you have also had this issue before! Kudos to Chase for providing the screenshot.
