I remember DevCon back in October of 2009 where RIM announced the BlackBerry Payment service. Almost a year and a half later we now have a beta available for the BlackBerry Payment Service. It took a long time coming but I think this will be a big game changer for RIM and App World.
The new Payment Service SDK will give developers way more flexibility in monetizing their apps. They will now be able to do things like subscriptions, feature locking, and pay per use apps. For example, you could rent a movie or TV show by paying through App World. Better yet you could finally get a trial software that lets you upgrade to the full version without downloading the app again. It also is a huge deal for developers who have been dealing with piracy since it allows for better developer control over that since it is tied to App World.
