If I am not mistaken RIM previously had some sort of program for BlackBerry accessory certification in the Alliance program but it has now been developed further. They rolled out a new Built for BlackBerry program to certify products that are specifically designed to work with both BlackBerry smartphones and the upcoming tablet. From what I can tell this may be somewhat similar to the Apple “Made for iPod/iPhone” logo on accessories. This new program is intended to give BlackBerry accessory makers some technical, strategic, and marketing support.
At launch the program includes Case-mate, Speck, Incipio, Otterbox, Tru Protection, iGrip, Vaja, Dicota and Trexta as members. Their approved products will start being identified by the new Built for BlackBerry logo on packaging and marketing material. Sadly they will not be able to certify users as “Born for BlackBerry.” 🙂
