UPDATE: You can now find the News Feeds Beta in App World at this link
It was just last week that I was asking RIM why they were letting Viigo die. It turns out RIM has actually been working on a program called BlackBerry News Feeds that is launching today. They are rolling out the new application in the typical App World progressive release where more users will have access to it as the day progresses.
The app is set to go live as a beta in both BlackBerry Beta Zone and BlackBerry App World’s Test Center so check both places at the links below:
This is how RIM describes the app:
The BlackBerry News Feeds app will provide a single point that aggregates all RSS news. The app is integrated into the BlackBerry experience, making it easy to share articles with contacts, friends and family.
Hopefully the new app will retain some of Viigo’s best features without the memory leaks. Ideally they would also add in Google Reader integration but I am not getting my hopes up. Still RIM has the opportunity to revive one of the best BlackBerry apps ever made. Hopefully they hit this one out of the park! Social Feeds is OK for a casual RSS reader but it really was a disappointment for users who rely on RSS for their daily news dose.
