Shape Photo Translator Public Beta – Translations from a Picture

Personally I find BBTran to be a great text translator for my BlackBerry but there are some times when you want to translate whole gobs of text without typing it in. That is where the new Photo Translator comes in from Shape. Photo Translator is currently free while it is in public beta and lets you take a picture of text in any language and the app will capture and translate it. Shape points out that one of the great uses for the app is translating menus when you are in a restaurant.

Features include:

  • Accurate Text Recognition – Reliable OCR (optical character recognition) technology allows to grab the text from images in a few seconds.
  • Translation Management – Translated text can be saved to Memo, sent by email, or used in other apps.
  • Translations Gallery and Search – Save results for later reference and quickly search through them
  • Multilingual Support – Photo Translator supports English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Czech, Dutch, Greek, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and many other languages.
