Polar Mobile has been pioneering the mobile space with some great content apps that take advantage of the BlackBerry platforms unique features like push content. They just announced a deal with the National Hockey League Players Association (NHLPA) to license all of their content for Polar Mobile to distribute through their mobile apps. Polar plans on using that content to create a nice line of BlackBerry and other smartphone apps to give in depth views into the players of the NHL.
According to the National Post this is the first deal made by a union of the four big sports leagues that does not involve the league. The first NHLPA app is supposed to come out in two weeks and will include information on all of the NHLPA’s 700+ players. They will also be launching dedicated apps for the star players and their fans.
Should be interesting to see what apps come out of this. I think sports news and info make for some very compelling mobile apps and Polar Mobile is a great partner to bring them to the BlackBerry OS. They have developed over 150 top apps for companies like Bloomberg, CFL Mobile, and more.
