Long time readers will know that I am no fan of the current trademark, copyright, and patent laws in the tech/mobile space. The latest in this crazy world of legal antics is Apple being awarded a trademark on the phrase “There’s an app for that.” Seriously! They trademarked an English phrase that really has nothing to do with Apple other than the fact that they also speak English and used that phrase in their marketing material since their App Store launched.
So from now on I guess we will have to say “There’s an APPLICATION for that” or better yet “There’s software designed to help perform a task for that!”
The only conciliation is that Apple only won the trademark application for “retail store services featuring computer software provided via the Internet and other computer and electronic communication networks; retail store services featuring computer software for use on handheld mobile digital electronic devices and other consumer electronics.”
