The former Led Zeppelin front man Robert Plant just released a free Band of Joy Album app for BlackBerry on App World. This is the first app built specifically by Universal Music for BlackBerry which makes me wonder if RIM had anything to do with it. The app is free to download and lets you listen to samples from the album and watch video content including exclusive interviews, music video and behind the scenes footage from the tour.
The app is integrated with the 7Digital music store and Amazon.com to purchase the album which is interesting. It also ties in with Facebook and the Robert Plant Facebook page. The app also has some bonus material including unreleased live tracks along with news you may be interested in.
The only downside with the app right now is that it loads slowly and many users are reporting on App World that it just freezes or fails to load. Hopefully Universal Music will fix that soon since it would be a shame for this BlackBerry music launch to fail do to bad execution.
