Quite a few Palm WebOS users were expecting DataViz to release Documents to Go for WebOS shortly. Those users were sorely disappointed when DataViz announced on their Facebook page that they were not coming out with a version of Documents to Go for WebOS due to technical hurdles.
Kevin over at CrackBerry received confirmation from multiple sources that DataViz has been purchased by RIM. Neither RIM nor DataViz has made any mention of that but supposedly the deal went down for $50 million in cash which is below what RIM needs to disclose publicly. This may be similar to what they did with Dash Navigation.
It will be interesting to see if this goes down since RIM could sync well with DataViz. They worked together extensively to get Documents to Go in BlackBerry OS 5.0 and later and I think they could use Documents to Go to help bolster their BES and consumer user market. Now if only they started offering Documents to Go Premium for freeā¦ I also wonder what this will mean to the other platforms DataViz currently supports.
Either way hopefully we will get some confirmation soon if this deal went through. We should definitely be able to find out at DevCon.
