It looks like RIM is going to have a reason to celebrate at DevCon this year. As per my unofficial count RIM now has 9888 apps, games, themes, etc in App World. That puts them very close to the 10,000 app mark exactly a month before DevCon. Pretty impressive. I was also happy to note that I spotted quite a few decent and useful $0.99 apps showing up so hopefully the tide has turned on relatively expensive BlackBerry apps.
The top five categories with the largest collection in App World are:
- Themes – 2217
- Reference & eBooks – 1665
- Games – 1524
- Utilities – 710
- Productivity – 377
I really wish RIM would share some of the stats behind App World showing what sells and what does not. The thing that really annoys me is that the top 25 paid apps still includes 2 memory boosters. RIM really has no shame letting their customers get ripped off by applications that cannot possibly “boost” your memory beyond what is already done by the OS.
