It looks like there are some big fans of Dr Who over at RIM. Driphter got sent some pictures of a early prototype of the BlackBerry Torch 9800 which calls itself the “BlackBerry Tardis” in the about screen. Maybe RIM needs to reconfigure their Tardis and take it back to 2008 when this device should have been released… 🙂 (Sorry couldn’t help myself)
Well the pictures are interesting to see and they show the device is running a version of BlackBerry 5.0 from the Storm series. There is also a notable extra hole by the speaker that Driphter is dreaming might have been a front facing camera but probably was just a proximity sensor. The other off part is that the device is labeled a “SYNAPTICS” instead of a “BlackBerry” where it usually has the logo emblazoned. I guess Synaptics got the device named after them because they provided the touchscreen tech?
Let your mind roam wild in the comments guessing what may have been on the 9800. Maybe this device even sports a 1Ghz processor? 🙂
