Bluetooth Message Access Profile (MAP) Coming in OS 5.0?

MEP Options I happened to be setting up a new Bluetooth headset on my pre-release BlackBerry Curve 9300 and noticed a new menu option in the Bluetooth settings. The new options are based on a new Bluetooth Profile that RIM is enabling soon to allow other Bluetooth devices to read and send email and SMS. For example, Ford is working with RIM to implement MAP Bluetooth support for BlackBerrys to allow their MyFord Touch equipped vehicles to read text messages out loud.

I think it is great that RIM is slowly opening up to new Bluetooth Profiles. I noticed that this new profile looks like it is coming in OS 5.0 since the OS 5.0.0.637 on this 9300 has a whole new MAP Options menu item in the Bluetooth settings. You can see it to your right. It allows you to select what message services the MAP profile can access and if it should send new message notifications. I am not sure what the story is with the timeout and multiple tunnels but I am sure somebody can figure it out! 🙂
