Waze Public Beta Puts A Social Spin on GPS Navigation

Waze Its always exciting to see another navigation app hit the BlackBerry OS. The latest is not in public beta from Waze. It takes a more social and reward based angle towards navigation which is refreshing. The idea is that Waze is trying to encourage feedback and involvement from the BlackBerry community by featuring BlackBerry "road goodies” while you drive. These small icons that capture while driving (and wasting gas) give you bonus points. The user who captures the most BlackBerry “road goodies” from May 4th until May 14th 2010 will get a brand new iPad which is a nice perk.

Sadly the app is not on par with their iPhone app according to my buddy Jessica @CNet but it does offer some great features including:

  • The ability to build and use live maps
  • real time traffic updates
  • turn by turn navigation
  • Social elements let drivers notify other drivers about traffic, police traps, construction, & speeding cameras

Currently the early beta will only run on BlackBerry 8900, 9000, 9630 and 9700 devices (excluding Storm).  You can download it now free at m.waze.com from your Blackberry
or watch a guided tour at www.waze.com/guided_tour.
