Seriously? Kodak owns a a few patents that relate to previewing images or video on a color screen. I found both this patent for pictures and this patent for video but it looks like they are suing RIM over this patent specifically.
Kodak today announced their complaint filed with the US International Trade Commission that claims RIM’s BlackBerrys with cameras infringe on Kodak’s patent for “a method for previewing images.” Supposedly they have been trying to come to an agreement with RIM for years but have not been able to reach a satisfactory agreement.
Kodak claims they do not want to disrupt the availability of BlackBerry devices but in short they want to be paid. Over 30 companies already pay them licenses including LG, Samsung, Nokia, and Motorola.
The irony was that RIM had a showcase of Kodak’s upcoming wireless printing application at their booth during CES. Which made me think that Kodak and RIM were buddies. Turns out that all is fair in love and business…
