BlackBoard BlackBerry App Empowers Mobile Students

blackboard-mobile After writing about Desire2Learn2Go yesterday it made me wonder if BlackBoard also has a BlackBerry app. BlackBoard is one of the most (if not the most) popular and used learning management system by colleges. We mentioned back in January that they were working on an application and it turns out that they released one back in November.

The BlackBoard BlackBerry app assists students in navigating course catalogs and campus maps, e-mailing professors and classmates and receiving real time updates on course schedules, campus events, news and sports. They also have open APIs for Blackboard Mobile so schools can customize the application for themselves. The app was originally developed by Terriblyclever Design which was acquired by BlackBoard in July.

The downside is that the Mobile Central application is branded for each institution so you cannot just download the client and use it with your schools BlackBoard system. Hopefully that will change as more and more students start using BlackBerrys…
