Rumor: BlackBerry Essex, 9100 Striker, & 8530 Curve…

8530Salomondrin has been on a roll with leaks on upcoming devices so it adds some credibility to the rumors we have been hearing about these upcoming devices. He just posted up that RIM is expected to release 16 new devices in 2010 which is kind of shocking. Personally I think RIM needs to focus less on quantity of devices and more on their OS. Practically all the upcoming devices tell the same story in a different form factor. 3G, Wi-Fi, Trackpad, with an aging OS holding it all back. Hopefully OS 5.0 will help bring RIM back into the game.

Still its worth mentioning 3 of the devices Sal pointed out:

BlackBerry Essex:
I have been hearing quite a bit about this device that will have 3G & Wi-Fi on CDMA networks. Essentially it will be the Tour with Wi-Fi and a trackpad. Sal hints to an extra surprise and I have been also hearing rumors about RIM adding a touchscreen to full QWERTY devices so you never know.

BlackBerry 9100 Striker:
This is one of those device codenames that I keep getting tips about but have no substance. Supposedly it will be a follow up to the Pearl line with a slimmer feel compared to the upcoming 9700. No word on if it will be a flip but it will be packing 3G and a trackpad. Talk about vague…

BlackBerry Curve 8530:
This device has already been spotted in Verizon’s inventory so its a no brainer. It even had it specs leaked back in July. From what we hear this CDMA variant of the 8520 Curve will have Wi-Fi added which is a nice bonus for a CDMA device.

As I said nothing really ground breaking. RIM really needs to follow Intel’s footsteps and hire more software engineers/programmers than hardware engineers. Hopefully they have already done so and are well under way in revamping the BlackBerry OS.
