For those of us that got the 8900 early, we ran into a lack of themes specially since there were no Today Plus style themes preloaded on it. Now the wait is over since CDK 4.7 found it’s way to the theme developer’s hands, some great themes have been made available. Jason sent me over some of his latest work for the 8900, which he had previously made for other devices including the Bold such as the Sidewinder, and the H7 (which is one of my favorites). Today I got to test some of his work on my 8900 and I have to say this themes are very well designed. We have featured several of this themes before for other models, but for those that have the 8900 this is something many have been waiting for.
My Favorite style of themes are those that display my calendar in the home screen as it helps me keep track of appointments and errands. This means my favorite of his themes is the H7 theme. This theme has 7 customizable icons in the shape of a hexagon that allows you to scroll left, right, up, down and diagonal, which is different from some rotational style themes I’ve seen. On the right hand side it displays your calendar with about 7 different date entries to help you keep track of special dates. The theme is very sharp on the 8900 and is easy to navigate through the menus. The background colors and the contrast makes this theme look sharp and easy on the eye.
One of the other themes that stands out of the crowd is the Venom theme, and if you are someone who also likes to stand out then this theme might be for you. The theme has a set of Five icons that lay along a curvy line on the right side of your BB screen from the bottom up. One of the things that I like about this theme is that all the stuff that is usually crammed in the top bar of most themes has been disbursed among different areas of the screen; the battery icon is on the bottom left…Date and time at the top, etc. This gives you a feel that your BB screen is bigger than it actually is. The icons are placed in a silver metallic ring and makes the buttons appear as if they are above the screen.
The Sidewinder is another theme that combines customizable icons along with Today style listings in the home screen and takes themes to another level. The today icons display several appointments or messages as you scroll through them and they hide when you move to another icon. They all worked well on my Curve, and I have to say that I am a big fan of today style themes since they are very helpful. If you are a busy person and don’t want to forget a meeting or an appointment and like the ability to preview email messages with out having to go to your inbox, then this theme is for you.
