I don’t mean to belittle the developer but VipBirthdays is proof that “if you build it they will come.” When I first heard about this application that tells you what famous people were born on what day I doubted anybody would be interested in it. Turns out that the application has been out a week and people are buying it. Go figure. I guess there is a demand for having an archive of 20,000 famous peoples birthdays on your BlackBerry. I actually posted this as a question to ask why anybody would want to know such information? VipBirthdays is a nice little application that displays a list of famous people born on a specific month/day in the past. When launched it automatically sets the date on today’s date, but you can select any other date you want. You can also search a specific VIP by partial name. $4.99 it is not pricey but there really is nothing to compare it with.
From the product description:
VipBirthdays is a nice little application that displays a list of famous people born on a specific month/day in the past. When launched it automatically sets the date on today’s date, but you can select any other date you want. You can also search a specific VIP by partial name.
The archive is stored locally for a very fast access (so no Internet connection is required) and it currently contains more than 20,000 records!
If you don’t know one of the VIPs found, just click on the name and a Google search for that name will be automatically run on the default web browser. (this last features requires a Internet connection though)
Features:

- Records are stored locally on the BlackBerry for a very fast access

There are sites like http://deadoraliveinfo.com that show at least some of this info or maybe more for free. The formatting is not that great on the Blackberry because it’s not a mobile site, but I bet there’s one out there that might look pretty good.

There’s no accounting for some people’s celebrity fascinations…congrats to these guys for cashing in on it. Hmmm…an iPhone version would sell thousands of copies!
