Is PDF To Go Really A Limited Version Of Cerience RepliGo Reader?

About_PDF_To_Go When I first heard of PDF To Go I thought it was a totally new application that DataViz developed on their own. One of our readers just let me know about an interesting little tidbit. While doing a little poking around in the new PDF To Go application from DataViz he found a mention of Cerience in the about screen. It says that portions of PDF To Go are copyright of Cerience Corporation and its licensors…

I guess that would explain how DataViz managed to bring PDF To GO to market so fast. So far PDF To Go seems to be a limited version of Cerience’s RepliGo PDF Reader. PDF To Go is missing some of the more powerful features found in RepliGo such as: number of zoom levels, zoom granularity, and search. On the other hand it does have the appeal of being free with a premium version of Documents To Go.

Interesting to see that they are licensing RepliGo. That is a definite vote of confidence for Cerience. I wonder what that means for the BeamBerry PDF reader beta… They do have a very appealing feature of original font support though they still are in beta.

Only time will tell which will come out on top. Personally I think RIM should purchase or license both the Documents To Go and one of these PDF readers and offer them free on the BlackBerry. That way they can better compete with Windows Mobile devices that come with office free.
