When I first read this press release I was hoping that they were announcing that you could now play TiVo shows on your Berry. No such luck. They are just announcing a partnership to allow you to control your TiVo from your BlackBerry. The first release of this software is scheduled for later this year. I just hope this does not take as long as SlingPlayer for BlackBerry.
In a nutshell from the press release:
Initially, BlackBerry smartphone users will gain the convenience of being able to discover what shows are on and schedule television recordings while away from the living room and on the go. Future collaboration between the companies will focus on software applications that further simplify mobile access to video content.
That last line almost seems to promise a way to watch TiVo on your BlackBerry but its extremely vague. You can read the full press release at this link but there is not much more that you will find interesting.

The whole placeshifting thing sounds really neato in a gee whiz sorta way, but looking at how impossible it has been to get the Blackberry Sling Player launched, and wondering how the MPAA is going to react to all this when it ramps up, and then there’s the whole Comcast (and others) bandwidth caps, you have to wonder how much of this is ever going to REALLY become a reality in the anywhere near future??? And how many Blackberry devices out there have the requisite OS support for video (other than Bold, OFFICIALLY, practically none)? I guess I’m just in a pessimistic mood…
