MobileTribe – Access Facebook, Myspace, & Yahoo

I will start off by saying that this application is definitely a work in progress. I went through all of their hoops to install it and while it did work the screen kept on flashing at me like it was trying to induce a seizure. I am only mentioning it because I hope others might have a better experience. (Or just be willing to try harder to fix it)

MobileTribe is an interesting application that lets you connect to your Facebook, Myspace, & Yahoo profiles from your BlackBerry. While it does work I cant say that it works well. On the other hand it lets you do stuff with Facebook that you can’t do with the native Facebook application. For example you can scroll through friends and view a bit of their profile. On the other hand this application has a much more difficult and confusing user interface.

MobileTribe seems to somehow be in partnership with Jajah so they also offer some kind of calling solution.

Honestly this application is very cryptic and MobileTribe seems to be confused as to if they want to charge for the application. They mention a $4.99/month subscription fee on Handango but they let you download and use the app for free.

You can read more about the application at www.mobiletribe.net or you can download it OTA at m.mobiletribe.net

If you are a sucker for punishment like me and do try it out let me know how it goes!

  1. The flashing bug mentioned in this article has been fixed on 7/24/08 – it was present in a couple of models of BlackBerry. We understand the flashing bug would have caused a bad user experience.

The pricing of the MobileTribe is $4.99/month. When you download the MobileTribe client from http://www.mobiletribe.net, you have a 5 day free trial period, following which the application will expire. You would then need to go to the handango website to purchase it.
