Get Paid For Roaming Around With Your BlackBerry?

Cellcap-thumbnailFirst of all I have to say that you wont be quitting your day job. With that in mind…

SameCell let me know about a new program they have running. The idea is that you install an application on your BlackBerry that captures your GPS coordinates every time your cellphone connects to a new cell phone tower. SameCell will pay you $0.02 for every NEW cell tower you collect.

The catch is that you have to reach the $25 threshold before they will pay you. That means you need to collect over 1250 cellphone towers to make $25 bucks. Maybe a road warrior… Or do we have any BlackBerry toting cross country truck drivers? Otherwise the security implications of them having access to your location at all times is just too much for me.

While I don’t think this is the most appealing job in the world  I do think it is an interesting development for BlackBerry. This is the first case I have ever heard of applications that pay you. Is this a new trend… If you are a giving heart you can donate your pennies to a charity.

From what I am understanding the idea behind the program is for SameCell to be able to build up a database of cellphone location so they can do what Google Maps does with “my location.”

You can read more about the program on their website. You will need a GPS enabled BlackBerry or GPS puck for your BlackBerry for the application to work. If you are up for it you can pick up the application directly OTA from www.SameCell.com/cells
