FAQ: BlackBerry Copy and Paste Keyboard Shortcut

8820-keyboard.jpgQuestion: Is there a way to copy and paste on my BlackBerry without using the menu?

Answer: Yes there is actually a way to copy and paste on your BlackBerry without using the menu. The way you do it is as simple as 1-2-3:

  1. Select the text you wish to copy using the “Num” key and scrolling over the text
  2. Once you have the selected text highlighted you press the “Num” key and then push in the trackball. Congrats you have just copied the text!
  3. Now to paste the text move the the area where you wish to paste and hit the “Num” key and then press in the trackball and the text will be pasted.

Its really that easy. I have found this very useful in 3rd party applications that do not have the copy and paste function in the menu. This allows you to copy and paste serial numbers and such into special fields that would normally not allow pasting like the Magmic game activation field. I have found the keyboard shortcuts to be one of the key differences between a BlackBerry and other “Smartphones.” Personally I find it very useful to learn as many shortcuts as I can.

A good resource for these shortcuts is Stinsonddog’s Blackberry Tips website. If you scroll down to the bottom of the homepage you will find PDF guides to the 8100, 8300, 8700, and 8800 BlackBerry devices. Check it out and let Stinsonddog know how useful you found his guides.
