Aukido - Free Ringtone Downloads & Generator - Create Ringtones From YouTube Videos

Tashanna sent me a link to a great website full of free ringtones. It also lets you create your own ringtones from an MP3 file or URL. The coolest part is that you can even enter in a YouTube URL and it will create a ringtone out of the audio from the video. It then lets you cut up the audio file into the segment that you want.

There is quite a range of free ringtones available and so far I have not found any that require payment. You just download them directly from the site to your PC. I tried it from my BlackBerry but that sadly did not work. They supposedly have a mobile version of the site in the works.

Solar Charging Jackets & Ties Of The Future? Funny Stuff!

Gareth pointed out this funny post on IntoMobile that I had to mention.  Turns out that some team at North Carolina State University is working on printing solar panels onto jackets & ties. These will supposedly allow you to charge your cellphone just by standing in the sun… I can’t say that I would be caught dead wearing such a thing but I definitely got a good laugh from it. Maybe I can convince some of my green loving friends to look into this renewable energy source. :)

FAQ: How To Disable BES Wireless Sync So You Can Selectively Restore & Disable Grayed Out Databases

A friend of mines BlackBerry was having problems with its profiles and I thought it might help to use BlackBerry Desktop Manager to clear the Profiles database. Turns out that this is not that easy on a device hooked up to a BES! All of the BES synchronized databases are grayed out in the selective/advanced restore options which means that you cannot restore or clear them… For the calendar, contacts, & tasks you can fix this by turning off the wireless sync but you don’t have this option for all the other databases on your BlackBerry.

I thought I was up a proverbial creek until I ran across some great instructions by Lamlamz on how to get around this restriction. Turns out there are two solutions. One requires cooperation from your BES admin and one you can easily do by yourself.

With the help of your BES admin:

  1. Use BlackBerry manager to find the BlackBerry user
  2. Right click on the user and select Edit
  3. Select PIM sync and change “Automatic Wireless Backup Enabled”
  4. Then hit apply
  5. Do your selective restore or clear and then set Automatic Wireless Backup Enabled to True.

Without the help of your BES admin:

  1. Go to settings/options->Advanced Options->Service Books and select the Desktop [Sync] service book
  2. Click the menu button and select delete.
  3. Then do your selective restore or clear from your desktop
  4. Then disconnect your BlackBerry and click the menu button on that same service book and select undelete

Big thanks to Lamlamz for the solution!

FBIMostWanted.Mobi - Track Down Fugitives On The Go

When I read about this site on WapReview I had to mention it. Mike created a free site using MobileSiteGalore which lists the FBI Most Wanted Fugitives. This is the same list they have published around the country. The developer also added the most wanted terrorist, missing children, murders, and quite a few others. Very entertaining to pretend you are a bounty hunter during your down time. You never know. With the reward money offered for some of the people on the Most Wanted list you could buy yourself a good couple Bolds…

MSN Mobile Website Is A Pretty Useful Portal

A friend of mine pointed out the mobile version of MSN’s website to me and I was pleasantly surprised to see that it actually looked quite good on my BlackBerry. Obviously I have some gripes like the video not working but that is to be expected since the site is targeted at Windows Mobile users. It has some great content including weather, news, sports, finance, & entertainment. Its especially useful if you like MSNBC, Fox Sports, and Microsoft search.

Its very nice and clean which is really impressive considering how old school RIM’s mobile.blackberry.com website looks in comparison.
