E*Trade Mobile Now Supports The Bold - Sort Of

Just heard from David that E*Trade’s Mobile application now works on the Bold. Not sure how many people are trading with the current situation and also have a Bold but at least E*Trade is still updating the application instead of just leaving it stagnant.

etradebold[3] etradebold[4]

I can confirm that it works on my Bold but ran into one problem. The application runs off the TCP/IP connection on your device so you need to have that setup with your correct carrier APN settings for it to work. It also does not work over WiFi so you need the TCP/IP settings below.

Not everything seems to work but this is an improvement.

For example, from their troubleshooting file:

For AT&T smartphones:

  • APN: wap.cingular
  • User name: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
  • Password: CINGULAR1

For T-Mobile smartphones:

  • APN: wap.voicestream.com
  • User name and password: (leave blank)

You can pick up the latest version from m.etrade.com

Still catching up on the tips everybody!

Mobipocket eBook Reader Beta v6 Updated To Build 79

ebookstore search results I was having some issues when I transferred my previous copy of Mobipocket to my Bold and found that they had a new beta hiding on their site. I was having some serious problems with the menu’s on the Bold but the latest update Build 79 works like a charm. I am not sure if it was fixed in a previous version since I don’t remember what version I was using before.

Official change log for this version:

  • Password encrypted eBooks are now fully supported.
  • Fix of some sub-menus which are not displayed on some blackberry (like annotations sub-menu).
  • Fix of error message displayed when some eBooks were opened.

Others could learn a thing or two from Mobipocket’s simple yet succinct change log.

Sadly the latest beta is not available OTA currently so you have to download it using your computer and desktop manager for now at:

Storm Keeps Showing Up All Over The Place

storm-dummyshotjpg Sorry just catching up where I left off. While I was out for the holiday Vodafone Germany launched a Storm Updates page. No big surprise there after Verizon put up theirs. On a side note Vodafone UK is giving away 20 BlackBerry Storms to UK residents so its worth signing up. Robb also spotted some Verizon Storm dummy unit shots on CrackBerry Forums that caught my eye.

I wonder what will leak next? I guess the next step is for Verizon to put one of these on eBay… :)

Thanks to everyone who sent these in!

Viigo BerryReview Edition - RSS Reader For BlackBerry

The Street Releases Free Mobile Application

thestreetmobile Luis let me know that The Street teamed up with Polar Mobile to create a free BlackBerry application. It allows you to access certain parts of The Street from your BlackBerry. I am not sure how well it works but it looks purty.

I am not sure why you would not just use a multipurpose RSS reader but the articles do format quite well on in the reader. It does not look like you can add your own RSS feeds so this app is a one trick horse.

You can read more at this link or download it direct by heading to m.thestreet.com

AT&T Bold Delays Keep On Coming…

Boldtraining So it is October 2nd and still no Bold to be found. BoyGenius is reporting that the Bold training for AT&T employees has been delayed do to launch delays. Its kind of odd considering launch parties are already scheduled for October.

I admit that the October and other rumored launch dates were only rumors. On the other hand the Bold has already been released in 31 countries already so what exactly is this deal breaking problem?

I really don’t get the problem that AT&T has with the Bold testing. All I can say is that my unlocked Rogers Bold has been working like an absolute DREAM on AT&T with nary a problem… It still has a memory leak problem but with 36mb of free space that is not as big of a consideration anymore to me.

Excerpt from the email:

As you are aware, with the anticipated launch of the 3G AT&T BlackBerry Bold, RIM has committed to hold training sessions in over 40 cities.  A large number of these sessions were to take place this and next week.  Due to the continued uncertainty of the device launch date, we will work with RIM to reschedule these sessions to a later date.

Any representatives that have registered will be informed by email of the schedule change. No action is required from your part.

Rescheduling the training to align with a final technical acceptance for BlackBerry Bold launch will ensure that:

SimCity - Build The City Of Your Dreams

Paula let me know that EA has released SimCity for BlackBerry. When I heard about it I suddenly had flashbacks of SimCity 2000 from back in the day… Anybody feel the same? It turns out that the graphics of SimCity for BlackBerry look similar to the classic. :) The game is an expensive $14.99 at Handmark with no trial but this is SimCity… I can only imagine what kind of natural disasters show up in this version. (Red dinosaurs…Seriously?)

From the description:

Design and build the city of your dreams on your mobile phone. Try to attract as many Sims as possible to your new metropolis.Take on the roles of Mayor and City Planner as you design and build the city of your dreams on your mobile phone. Choose a map and then zone residential, commercial, and industrial areas. Install roads and railways, police and fire stations, parks and stadiums, and more, but be prepared to deal with crime, pollution, fires, tornados, and even attacking monster. All this while keeping a balanced budget! Your ultimate goal is to attract as many Sims as possible to your thriving new metropolis.

Features:

  • Build cities on multiple game maps, each with a unique set of challenges.
  • You control the pace of development-if your city develops too fast, slow down the simulation so you can get a handle on things.
  • Take charge of the city budget and decide where best to spend taxpayers’ hard-earned Simoleons. Keep the treasury in the black but don’t overtax your citizens or they may leave!
  • Eight tool categories give you the ability to plan, zone, build, bulldoze, re-zone, and manage your city.
  • Get the information you need-review residential, commercial, and industrial statistics, check land values, and monitor crime, pollution, and traffic levels to determine which areas need the most attention.
  • Help your citizens cope with and recover from tornados and other natural disasters.
