Sally sent in this tip that I thought was interesting. Google has created a mobile site that gives you basic election information for every state. It gives you links to the election hotline for that state along with the deadline for registering. Also they link to the states informational pages for the elections. You just enter in your 2 letter state code for information.
Check it out at m.google.com/elections and let us know if you found a better resource. Nothing groundbreaking but mobile election resources are useful in my opinion.

Eric let us know that Viigo has updated their project tango release. It looks like the version went up from 3.0.225 to 3.0.246. I am still getting hourglasses and all but I am a bit of a version addict… Install if you think it might help.
You can pick up the latest BerryReview Viigo Project Tango Edition at:

Both Tom & BeamBerry let me know that they have a new application in free beta testing. BeamBerry is working on BeamBerry which is a native PDF application for BlackBerry. This will be in direct competition with the RepliGo Reader PDF viewer that is in private beta currently.

Check out the features below or pick up a copy of the public beta at this link.
Displays Original PDF Fonts
Unlike other solutions that use substitute fonts, BeamReader displays all original PDF fonts. This makes the PDF document look exactly as it would on a regular PC. All of the original fonts, images and formatting is preserved. Take a look at the difference display of original fonts makes!
Fully Native and Secure Solution
BeamReader does not require any server side pre-processing to display the PDF documents. All document rendering is completely local to the BlackBerry device. This also makes BeamReader a secure PDF reader because your PDF documents never leave your BlackBerry device for server side conversion.

InfoSync caught some hands on time with the upcoming iDen/Nextel 8350i phone that is set to replace the aging 7100i on the iDen network. Hopefully iDen is not sold before then but you never know. According to InfoSync the new device has a much more rugged feel compared to the regular Curve and weighs more. I like the slick new yellow ring around the trackball.
It uses Nextel’s walkie talkie interface instead of Sprint’s newer EVDO Qchat walkie talkie service. Release date rumors seem to be floating between the 15th of November and sometime in December.
Anybody waiting for this device to come out?

Ian let me know about yet another AT&T BlackBerry Bold Launch party that was not listed on the sales rep training web page we saw before. Turns out that once again RIM is holding a launch event in Manhattan for their latest BlackBerry device. Previous launch events were usually in either NYC or and another city so this fits the mold. The NYC one this time is happening on October 16th so all signs point to a late October early November release. Crossing our fingers…
So who is invited?

With all the leaks surrounding the Storm so far this is not really surprising. The BoyGenius managed to score the BlackBerry Storm user guide for your viewing pleasure. Nothing crazy new here but there are a bunch of screenshots to drool over. It gives you a detailed view of the media player, camera, GPS & BBMaps, phone, and keyboard.
I still can’t find any confirmation of DivX & XviD support like the Bold but hopefully it is in there also… Check out all the images at this link. The BoyGenius seems to be having some server issues so you can find some of the images on CrackBerry or other sites until they figure it out.
You can now also play with an extremely limited demo of the G1 Android Google Phone that I found on MobileCrunch to compare the upcoming touchscreen goodies.

I know many people have asked for it after the success of the Apple app store. Kevin scored some great shots of a concept app store on the Vodaphone BlackBerry Storm. This app store will let you find and browse 3rd party BlackBerry apps hosted by carriers. I am not that big on carriers being involved but I guess you cannot have everything. This app store only shows downloadable applications published by the carrier. Here is to hoping that RIM cuts carriers out of the mix since they have fumbled every app store ever released. I can just see AT&T crippling this already. I just hope it does not end up being yet another homescreen shortcut I have to hide on my device.

Features from CrackBerry:
- The Application Center will be available on 4.7 Storm devices and will be designed for the Storm touch screen UI.
- Carriers will be responsible for hosting the application data and sending updates to the directory to RIM.
- The main application screen will provide the user with a list of all applications that are available for install from the particular carrier for the specific device model and OS version. Incompatible applications will not be displayed.
- The main screen will provide the user the ability to quickly browse the application list, then view the available information about each application in a detailed description screen which shows the logo and full description. Installation will occur with one click (launches the web browser).
- The user will be able to access the Options > Applications screen from within the App Center (allowing the user to delete applications directly from within the App Center).
- The user will be provided with various status info: date the app list was most recently updated; notification that updates are available; option to reapplication list was completed, etc.
- Since the download and installation will be handled by the browser in this first release, the Application Center will not be capable of restarting the application / download intelligently.
- The Application Center will automatically check for updates daily.
As Kevin speculates all the information is making it sound like this will be announced at the first developer conference this month! Here is to hoping RIM does not let carriers cripple this to make it useless.
Nice work Kevin!
