So it is October 2nd and still no Bold to be found. BoyGenius is reporting that the Bold training for AT&T employees has been delayed do to launch delays. Its kind of odd considering launch parties are already scheduled for October.
I admit that the October and other rumored launch dates were only rumors. On the other hand the Bold has already been released in 31 countries already so what exactly is this deal breaking problem?
I really don’t get the problem that AT&T has with the Bold testing. All I can say is that my unlocked Rogers Bold has been working like an absolute DREAM on AT&T with nary a problem… It still has a memory leak problem but with 36mb of free space that is not as big of a consideration anymore to me.

Excerpt from the email:
As you are aware, with the anticipated launch of the 3G AT&T BlackBerry Bold, RIM has committed to hold training sessions in over 40 cities. A large number of these sessions were to take place this and next week. Due to the continued uncertainty of the device launch date, we will work with RIM to reschedule these sessions to a later date.
Any representatives that have registered will be informed by email of the schedule change. No action is required from your part.
Rescheduling the training to align with a final technical acceptance for BlackBerry Bold launch will ensure that:

BoyGenius scored another picture of the internal Best Buy system showing the T-Mobile Flip arriving in stock on October 26th. I guess that means we will be seeing a KickStart Pearl 8220 Flip soon…

UPDATE: We were told that you should remove the RIM TOOLS FOLDER from 4.6.0.156 or else you will install RIM’s QUINCY application…
Sorry everybody but it was the Jewish New Year over the past two days so I was AWOL. While I was away we got tips for quite a few OS versions for the Bold so I thought I would start the catchup from there.
Secret Agent 001 sent in 4.6.0.156

Secret Agent 001 & 002 also sent in 4.6.0.154

Thanks again to our secret agents! Let us know if you notice anything different.
NOTE: Do not install this software if you do not know what you are doing. It may make your BlackBerry FUBAR or just plain angry.

Paula let me know that EA has released SimCity for BlackBerry. When I heard about it I suddenly had flashbacks of SimCity 2000 from back in the day… Anybody feel the same? It turns out that the graphics of SimCity for BlackBerry look similar to the classic.
The game is an expensive $14.99 at Handmark with no trial but this is SimCity… I can only imagine what kind of natural disasters show up in this version. (Red dinosaurs…Seriously?)
From the description:
Design and build the city of your dreams on your mobile phone. Try to attract as many Sims as possible to your new metropolis.Take on the roles of Mayor and City Planner as you design and build the city of your dreams on your mobile phone. Choose a map and then zone residential, commercial, and industrial areas. Install roads and railways, police and fire stations, parks and stadiums, and more, but be prepared to deal with crime, pollution, fires, tornados, and even attacking monster. All this while keeping a balanced budget! Your ultimate goal is to attract as many Sims as possible to your thriving new metropolis.
Features:
- Build cities on multiple game maps, each with a unique set of challenges.
- You control the pace of development-if your city develops too fast, slow down the simulation so you can get a handle on things.
- Take charge of the city budget and decide where best to spend taxpayers’ hard-earned Simoleons. Keep the treasury in the black but don’t overtax your citizens or they may leave!
- Eight tool categories give you the ability to plan, zone, build, bulldoze, re-zone, and manage your city.
- Get the information you need-review residential, commercial, and industrial statistics, check land values, and monitor crime, pollution, and traffic levels to determine which areas need the most attention.
- Help your citizens cope with and recover from tornados and other natural disasters.

I know I have received the “Message truncated due to size” error before on my BlackBerry and was always wondering what it meant. Turns out that according to this knowledgebase article there is a max email size of 8Mb on BIS. Due to the Base64 encoding overhead that 8MB figure translates into about a 5Mb max on emails on your BlackBerry.
Another mystery solved…

Since I started using the Bold I had trouble taking screenshots with my older version of the free BBScreenShooter application. (Version 1.61 I think) Turns out that the good guys at Oppitronic have released an update since I last downloaded the application to bring the latest version to 1.62b. This version supports the 7xxx, 8xxx, & 9xxx series BlackBerrys so it should serve us well for quite awhile.
I just wanted to let everybody know about the updated version and send out a public thanks to Oppitronic for making such a valuable tool available for free!
Check out the latest version at this link or head directly to the download page at this link.

This is another website I ran into recently that I bookmarked on my BlackBerry. It’s not a BlackBerry or even a mobile specific website, but it fills a gap that I had. Have you ever tried to reach a website and it looked like it was down but you could not confirm it? Turns out that DownForEveryoneOrJustMe is meant to answer that question.

You just punch in a URL and it will tell you if the website is down for just you or for everybody. Nothing more and nothing less…
Check it out at www.DownForEveryoneOrJustMe.com and let me know what you think.
