Garmin GPS For BlackBerry Gets Reviewed

garminBB Frank just let me know about a review of Garmin for BlackBerry on PocketGPSWorld. This is the same Garmin $99 for the life of the device that we told you about previously.

If you were thinking about purchasing the Garmin GPS application for your BlackBerry I would highly recommend this review. Mike Barratt really dug into the features of Garmin for BlackBerry. He concludes that the software is pretty good but the maps are a bit outdated and the setup process was a bit cumbersome.

DreamBerry - Copy & Paste Calendar Appointments

This DreamBerry idea comes from Ljupco who was hoping that RIM would implement such a feature in the native BlackBerry calendar application.

Wouldn’t it be great if you could copy and appointment and then paste it in another location. Don’t get me wrong you can already just edit the calendar entry and change the date. On the other hand I miss the Outlook functionality of just being able to select an appointment and drag it or paste it to another time.

Better yet would be the ability to duplicate an entry. For example you have a dentist appointment followup. I would want to be able to just copy the first appointment and paste it to the new date and time…

Such small things…

Free X-Blue OS 4.5 Theme For 8100, 8300, 8700, & 8800

Josep let me know about a free theme by Xorphan on PinStack that really shows off the new Plazmic 4.5 CDK. The theme is called X-Blue and is very cutting edge. It has an upside-down “T” of icons on the main page that looks slick. The top bar is nice and simple and will go well with most backgrounds. The time is nice and big and easy to read. You do need to have OS 4.5 for this theme to work! I am not sure how it will work on an 8700 since I have not seen a 4.5 OS for the 8700.

Nice work Xorphan. You can find the latest OTA links at this thread on PinStack.

Modify Plazmic 4.5 CDK To Export To Older OS Versions

When the Plazmic 4.5 CDK was officially released many theme developers were peeved since it only allowed you to create themes for OS 4.5+.

Steve just let us know that he found a simple way to modify/hack the Plazmic 4.5 CDK to allow you to export themes to older OS 4.2.1 & 4.2.2 devices. Its actually pretty simple.

THIS IS NOT A SUPPORTED FUNCTION OF PLAZMIC so proceed at your own risk. The instructions are below. Thanks Steve!

With a little “push” from Constabl on BBF… I’ve figured out how to export Custom themes in a lower OS.
you need to edit some files..but its REAL easy. Do it at your OWN RISK….

  1. make sure Themebuilder is CLOSED
  2. locate the Plazmic CDK 4.5 directory in Program files.
  3. go to the directory RESOURCES
  4. select the file THEMES
  5. look for 2 folders. 1 is dimension240×260, the other dimension 320×240.
  6. within the dimension 240×260 there is a file called 8100Custom.
  7. Edit the following lines to look like this:
    The files are located in the Resource/Theme directories, then the 240×260 directory (will have the 8100 files) the 320×240 (will have the 8300, 8800 files) I’d suggest not changing the 7100 or 8700 (is there an os 4.5 for 8700?) files/
    these are the lines you edit:
    theme.supportedHandheldOs = 4.2.1,4.2.2,4.5
    theme.preferredHandheldOs = 4.5
    theme.importOs = 4.2.2,4.3.1
  8. Go to the dimension320×240 file and do the same for the 8300Custom, 8800Custom.

I don’t think you will find it necessary to edit the 7100 or the 8700 (are the 8700’s going to be using OS 4.5?)
ENJOY!
