RIM Sponsors Madonna Tour For Bold

Comments Off

I guess RIM still has a few promotional events for the Bold planned. The latest was sent in by Jordan. He found a ad in his local paper showing the Madonna Sticky & Sweet Tour presented by the BlackBerry Bold. The concert advertised will be on November 6th at Dodgers Stadium but there are a ton more going on worldwide. Anybody going?

Vodafone Storm Preorders – Phone Free With New Contract

Comments Off

vodaphonestormpreorder Vodafone is going all out with the upcoming Storm. They have now opened the floodgates for preorders on their site with delivery happening around Nov 11th. They are offering an amazing deal that Verizon should match where the Storm is free with a 18 month and up contract. For example, with a 18 month contract and a £40/month+ rate plan or a 24 month contract and a £35/month+ rate plan the phone is free.

Check out the details at the Vodafone Storm page

Zoho Mobile Website To Be BlackBerry Optimized Soon?

zoho Josep sent me a link to a article on the Zoho Blog mentioning that they are working on optimizing their mobile site for the BlackBerry browser. I know quite a few people use the Zoho document tools to edit, upload, and collaborate on documents to this will be a welcome update.

Just to clarify, Sathish Rajagopalan of the Zoho mobile team, was the one who confirmed this in this comment. The original article was about Zoho being featured in a Time.com article.

Sprint Roundup – Keeping iDEN – 8350i Pricing – New Early Termination Fees

8350i Lots of news coming out about Sprint over the weekend. I thought I would just consolidate it into one post to not annoy everybody who never has or never will be a Sprint customer.

First of all Sprint announced that it plans to keep its dying iDEN network and will try to revive it. They decided it was worth keeping since they could not find anybody to buy it for at least $5 billion. Kind of sad if you consider that they bought it for $35 billion in 2005. They also got a waiver from the FCC to gradually vacate the frequencies that were troubling public safety communications. via Reuters via BBCool

Second of all BlackBerry Cool managed to score some insider information about the upcoming 8350i iDEN Curve pricing. According to their source, Mike, the new device will be $479.99 retail and $249.99 with a 2 year contract with an additional $100 mail-in rebate bringing it down to $149.99.

Last of all Sprint revealed their new prorated early termination fees. They are the last on the bandwagon after Verizon, AT&T, & then T-Mobile started prorating ETF. Beginning Nov 2nd they will start prorating contracts after the 6th month by $10 each month. That means it could drop to as low as $50 before your contract is up. Personally I still don’t think it makes sense since according the the subsidized device argument the ETF should be $0 when the contract is up… Check out the details in their press release.

Verizon-Alltel Gets OK From Justice Dept – FCC To Vote Tomorrow

Comments Off

The Justice Department has given the thumbs up to the Verizon Alltel deal that we have mentioned quite a few times. There were concerns a bit back that this deal was in question due to financial issues but it looks like things are moving forward. I though I would mention this since quite a few of you are on Alltel and will be interested if this goes through.

The FCC is going to vote on this tomorrow (Nov 4th) and give their final approval. The Justice Department did set the condition that Verizon divest 100 markets in 22 states where the two carriers now overlap. It should be interesting to see what that means.

This merger would make Verizon the largest carrier with 83 million subscribers. That’s a pretty audience for the Storm… :)

Rogers Bold Now $199.99 @ Best Buy – Some AT&T Stores To Sell Bold Today?

Comments Off

rogersBBbold Kate @ MobileSyrup spotted an ad from Best Buy in Canada showing a lower $199 price point for the Rogers Bold in Canada with a additional $50 gift card. That is much better than the original $399 and the then lowered $299 price.

AT&T users, myself included, are peeved at the starting price of $299 after a $100 rebate that the Bold will be going for stateside. After all the delays you would think that AT&T would let users in on a bit of the cost cuts associated with a few month old device. (Who am I kidding this is AT&T we are talking about)

What will cheer up a few AT&T users is that The BoyGenius is reporting that some stores will be selling the Bold tomorrow before the official Nov 4th release date. That is all up to the managers discretion so don’t expect it at every store. You can read more about peoples success at The BoyGenius Report.
