BBTask Pro! - New GTD Task Managment Utility

Bbtaskpro003BBproductivity has just released a new GTD (Getting things done) task management application for BlackBerry devices called BBTask Pro!. Since I know quite a few people who rely on GTD to run their life I assume people would be interested in trying out this new alternative. BBTask Pro! costs $19.95 and has a 15–day trial for you to see if it fits the bill.

Website: http://bbproductivity.com/bbt/

Key Features:

  • BBTask PRO utilizes the internal task database. Enabling synchronization with your existing desktop software no matter what you use, Outlook, Notes, GroupWise, even BES users will enjoy OTA task synchronization. Your most recent tasks will also be available in the default task application.
  • Sort your tasks up to three ways using due date, priority, status, subject, and category (First sort by, then by, then by, ascending or descending) with optional dividers.
  • Quick Cat’s allow for quick access to tasks assigned to a Quick Cat category. Great for implementing Getting Things Done (GTD). These categories are also at the top of the category list when assigning categories to tasks.
  • Set how many days of future tasks you would like to see by default. For example, you can show only tasks that are due today or past due by default, or all tasks due today and in the next 7 days, its up to you to decide. You can of course show all if you would like.

Geotag Your BlackBerry Pictures For Free With BBplaces

BbplacesJosep just tipped me off to a free new application for BlackBerry devices that allows you to upload pictures you have taken with your berry and geotag them with the application. You can also view other geotagged pictures near your location. So far it seems that this application is being used mostly in Spain but the application does have an English version. You also need to click on the British flag on the top right of BBplaces.com to get the English version of the site. For now this seems like a novelty but who knows what it will develop into in the future. If you feel like braving it out head on over to the links below to try it out.

Caveat emptor: The software obviously requires a camera and GPS (bluetooth pucks also work) on your BlackBerry and you will need OS 4.2.1 at the minimum. That leaves BlackBerry 8100 users out in the cold.

Magmic To Bring Vivendi Mobile Games to BlackBerry

Leasuresuitlarry2Magmic has just announced another strategic partnership with Vivendi Mobile Games to port some of their hottest games to the BlackBerry OS. Some of these games will be coming as soon as next month. The games include the notorious Leisure Suit Larry®: Love for Sail and the full listing includes Caesar, Crash Tag Team Racing, Leisure Suit Larry: Love for Sail, Shock Blocks, Surviving Hollywood, and The Legend of Spyro. I can’t wait to see these games on the BlackBerry but I hope they have trial versions. Magmic has been doing a hell of a job in evolving the BlackBerry into a viable gaming platform. (not to mention a great time waster!)

This game has given me a heap of quiet time as my wife has developed an addiction to this game which stems back to its release in 2005 on PC and Mac. When my boss gave me the opportunity to review this one, I knew I would be without my BlackBerry for days if not weeks! So, with thanks to my wife Val, I have written up quite an in-depth review on Bookworm. So much for her being afraid of modern technology!

TVHarmony Allows You To Convert Tivo Recordings For Free

TvharmonyI just read a post by Shokat about a new free (for now) Beta application called TVHarmony that converts video from multiple sources to fit on your mobile device. While there is no explicit support for BlackBerry the software does convert to Dell Axim profile format 320×240 which will work on your BlackBerry video player. The TVHarmony converter will work with Tivo devices and quite a few video websites including YouTube, Google Video, and Archive.org.

The nice part is that instead of having to download the Tivo video to your PC and then convert using the Dump utility and then convert it to BlackBerry format you can now do all those things with one program in one step. The trick is to tell it to convert to the Dell Axim profile at 320×240 with a video bitrate of 350kbps and audio of 128kbps. TVHarmony will pull the file off your Tivo, convert it, and put it in a folder for you to copy to your Berry. If you plan on using it with Tivo you have to have a Tivo with Tivo-to-go capablity.

Check out TVHarmony here!

Since I don’t have a Tivo I would appreciate if somebody could confirm that this works.

Rumor: Google May Connect to Other IM Networks With Jabber Transports

GoogletransportsscreenshotI just got the scoop from Josep about a new discovery by the guys at the Google Operating System Website about some new features that seem to be coming to a Google near you. They have been looking at the code of the newly released Gmail 2.0 and have discovered some interesting things.

* colors for labels

* detaching messages from a conversation

* Jabber transports (these could be used to chat with people from other IM networks, like Yahoo, MSN, AIM). You could already use these transports to connect Google Talk with other IM networks, but you have to use a third-party server and another IM client to configure the transports. Being able to chat with people from other networks, which are much more popular than Google Talk, will make Google’s instant messenger more useful.

They also point out that the new contacts manager in Gmail 2.0 now allows you to store the screennames of your contacts on multiple IM networks. I would highly recommend reading this post on their blog. I really hope this rumor pans out!
