Walmart.ca in Canada has just released a new mobile website beta that looks quite good. It does not come anywhere close to the Amazon BlackBerry app but its leaps and bounds better than the mobile Amazon or Newegg site. I don’t shop Wal-Mart that often but I can see our friends north of the border using it for comparison shopping.
The website also lets you easily view local store promotions, location stores, and browse store flyers from your BlackBerry browser. Check it out from your BlackBerry at www.walmart.ca or get more details from your desktop at this link.

The folks over at idberry thought it would be nice to put together some scary Halloween themes for those of you who like to keep your Berry festive. He sent me over a bunch, but for time’s sake, I could only test one. I chose CreepyBerry which upon first glance I thought, “awwww, so cute”. Turns out it works as nicely as it looks. The adorable little pumpkin icons bounce on the home page as you scroll over them and go perfectly with the overall theme. Of course, if you’re someone who likes to know what each icon represents, immediately, then this theme may not be for you. The app names are listed underneath each icon however, so all is not completely lost. There are several other Halloween inspired themes available which you can take a look at via this link in our store. All themes are on sale for $3.99 until October 18th and are available for most newer BlackBerry devices.
DavidB pointed out this interesting little gadget to me and I thought it was a really cool idea. I travel quite often and tend to run out of juice. I am not always conveniently around a wall charger so I have resorted to using a Case-Mate Fuel for my Bold. The PowerPak which comes out in November is essentially just a wall charger for any USB device with a built in battery so that it can store a charge.
That means you can always pump in that last bit of juice while on the go. I am not sure what the capacity will be but the idea of giving your wall charger a secondary purpose is appealing since you have to carry it around anyways. I always thought it would be really cool if laptops could perform the same function of charging a gadget while off. Some laptops do this when the power plug is in but I have yet to hear of one that does it without the power cable plugged into the wall.

Now this is a feature I have been waiting for! I cannot believe that RIM does not let us do this natively but ToySoft has fixed that with their latest app PictureLink. PictureLink lets you create speed dial homescreen shortcuts or browser shortcuts of your own. Its great to create a folder of common contacts and browser bookmarks for easy photo dialing and browsing.
Setting it up is pretty easy. You just enter in the phone number or website and if the contact has a picture the app will use it as an icon or you can select your own. You can find it in the store at this link for $2.99.

It was pretty obvious that Bell Canada would be getting the BlackBerry Bold 9700 but the BoyGenius just clinched it. He got wind that the device will start shipping to retailers and dealers on October 30th with a launch tentatively in November with a set date coming later.
Once again these come with Canada’s lovely 3 year contracts which for the Bold 9700 comes in at $399.95 and full retail is $599.95. The funny part is that it looks like they will be retailing the original Bold 9000 for the same exact price… Makes you wonder.

The developers of mblStats let me know about their application that lets you track statistics and usage on your BlackBerry. It lets you track minutes, emails, contacts. It has quite a few settings letting you setup times to log minutes so you are only logging daytime and not nighttime minutes. You can even get alerts when you reach a certain limit. The app will even let you know who you contact the most in your address book.
Pretty cool for a cheap $2.99 app in the store… It only requires OS 4.5+. Also it may have some incompatibility issues with other applications that control SMS like BlackBook.
