Josep just let me know about the latest release from the Spanish company ITSOFT. They have just released an upgrade to their Beta application BBTrips that allows you to track your GPS location and then plot it on your computer using Google Earth. You can also have the application email you your log every hour or day. Pretty cool stuff for a free application.

What’s new?
-
New UI, much more clear to read and intuitive.
-
Quick send your route file.
-
Nicer vision in Google Earth, by default only trip notes are remarked.
-
Battery optimization to reduce energy consumption.
-
Battery level configurable to auto-disconnect GPS at BBTrips.
-
Write comments and press enter key to mark a position.
-
You can create a mark even if the BBTrips GPS option is OFF. The application will start it up and then will close when the data is ready.
What has been corrected?

Michael Small of BlackBerrythemes.co.uk has just released updated versions of his free Blue Today theme we mentioned previously. The theme now comes in a Grey and a Pink version. It still looks just as good and the same comments apply but now we have a bit more variety. I still really like the header bar though I find the icons in the Grey “Like A Mac” theme to be a little hard to see.

Once again the themes are Desktop Manager only. You can pick them up at this link. Nice work Michael!

BoyGenius scored some great information on the upcoming BlackBerry 9000 series devices. He managed to catch a confidential features document for OS 4.6 with information current up to April 8th.
According to these documents the latest release is rocking some serious upgrades. Many of our friends in the blogosphere have already covered these so I will just mention a few.
- Partial AJAX support
- Download files in the browser
- Video streaming
- CSS version 2.1 support (Cool styles)
- Better application removal
- Smart playlists like iTunes
Check out the full document on the BoyGenius Report. Or I also recommend checking out BlackBerryCool’s description of feature enhancements and CrackBerry’s great screenshot extractions.

Sadly the BlackBerry will still lack the ability to install applications to your SD card…

Been having trouble with BBweather? YWeather may be your free alternative. Jason Emerick just told me about his latest brain child that he created for himself and has kindly shared with the BlackBerry community.

The application simply gets the weather information from Yahoo’s weather data API and spits it out on your BlackBerry. It supports US locations based on ZIP codes and international users using their location ID. Not many options but simple and straight to the point with no advertisements.
You can read more about the application on Jason’s Blog. Or you can download it OTA or with your Desktop Manager at this link. He has even made the source code available at the same link. Thanks Jason!

I have always gotten a good laugh out of the Murphy’s Laws I have seen bounced around in emails. So when I saw this latest website on igloo.mobi I found it to be great for a good laugh. Just head on down to murphyslaws.wirenode.mobi from your BlackBerry browser to read them all. Its a great way to find something witty to start off your next meeting or presentation.
If you would rather have them installed on your phone you can always purchase the Murphy’s & Other Laws application from the BerryReview store for $4.99.

This theme was just released exclusively by Gary of Viralelectronics.com. It was designed by Zach the Z man and looks quite good. That is if you like pink.

It has a bit of Viral Electronics branding but that can be understood since it is nice and subtle. The icons are custom and look nice but I found it difficult to tell what each icon does. The theme is available now for Desktop Manager install only. Hopefully OTA will come soon. Thanks Zach and Gary!

SimulScribe has taken my BlackBerry by storm recently. I have fallen in love with the fact that I never have to check my voicemail box anymore. This saves me hours of listening to junk voicemails. Especially when people just leave a voicemail to tell you to call back. If you can afford it I highly recommend it.
The CMO of SimulScribe admits that they chose a bad name and as of this past Friday they changed the name to PhoneTag. Not much changed other than the name and look of the website. You have to love the fact that they have a BlackBerry as the featured device on their homepage.
They have added a nifty new feature that allows you to upload your address book to PhoneTags website. I will leave you to PhoneTags explanation of the feature:
Today SimulScribe/PhoneTag unveils a new, very cool feature that integrates your contact book with our service. Once a PhoneTag customer uploads their contacts into our system, two things happen. The first is that PhoneTag messages will now come from the email address of the person who called you. This allows you to very easily email the person back from the transcribed voicemail that comes in through PhoneTag. The second is that our system now also searches for the correct spelling of the caller’s name. This means if you call me, the system will look through my contact list for “your name” and put it in the proper place with the correct spelling. Automated transcription of callers’ names is one of the toughest parts of delivering highly accurate voicemail transcriptions - this is a big innovation, which only PhoneTag has developed and now offers.
