As you have probably all noticed, there has been a lack of articles from Ronen over the last 24 hours or so. Now I don’t want you all to worry but he is undergoing a radical new type of surgery that will replace a part of his body with a BlackBerry. The part of his body being replaced ??? Well that guess is up to you. Drop a funny comment below and when the boss gets back, we will hook up the best one with a sweet theme or something… (I don’t know what yet, but find something for you)
This is great…”Now I have a ’Post Button’…HoHoHo”. Finally, I can post up without taking the final draft through the editor. I can see Ronen’s lawyer having a heart attack right now.
Seriously though, Ronen has gone into hospital to have his ’wisdom’ removed. (Just a thought, If an American has their ‘wisdom’ removed, does that make them a Canadian or an Australian ? Just Joking Guys :)…’That’s if they have ‘wisdom’ added’…Ok, Ok, I’ll stop now before I get myself in even deeper. “He has gone to get a wisdom tooth removed”. He should be back on deck within the next couple of days so between now and then, Luciano and myself will do our best to keep the spirit alive. And Don’t forget to drop your comment below for your chance to win a sweet theme. The funniest suggestion and reason why wins. Go for it guys.

“You have the right to remain silent” could get a whole new meaning. Especially for Lieutenant Frank Drebin, who always has his Blackberry set on vibrate.
I just read a quick article about cops being equipped with Blackberries and now I wonder if this is really news. It sounds like an obvious idea to me, but maybe having civil service use equipment from such specific providers like RIM isn’t that easy, so it took a while to happen. I know the cost and bureaucracy would render such an idea impossible in Brazil.
The application is called… PocketCop 3.5. Of course it’s an obvious name, they didn’t really have much choice, did they?
BIO-Key International announced today a new application for BlackBerry smartphones called PocketCop 3.5. The application allows officers to get information directly from the department’s computer-aided dispatching system and allows the officers to send updates directly to the dispatch system in return. PocketCop can be deployed over-the-air and updates are applied automatically. The PocketCop system is scanner proof as well keeping criminals who may be listening to a police scanner in the dark until officers are ready to make themselves known.
Some detailed and interesting information here.

Does that mean cops will let go of donuts and get addicted to Blackberries now? Anyway, when I see this picture of Detective Olivia Benson and look at that belt I always think “Blackberry”. Don’t you?

Well, I am Brazilian and the comment section has shown us we have at least two other readers from Brazil. So why not give this heads up as well. It seems that Vivo (pronounced Vee-voh) now is going to offer the Curve 8310, the one that is usually seen in the “titanium” or “ruby” colors. Personally, I prefer the “golden” 8320, but more choice is always welcome. I certainly wouldn’t mind having a ruby Berry!

I have no idea of plans and coverage and devices available in the U.S., but this is being announced as news: AT&T business customers will now have 8120 Pearls with Wi-Fi, with “simultaneous voice and data access when connected to a Wi-Fi network”, in case you’re not happy with just a Blackberry data plan.
“The BlackBerry Pearl 8120 can keep users who are abroad connected with wireless e-mail, Internet access and other mobile applications through data services in more countries than any other U.S. carrier, with data-roaming in more than 145 countries. Customers can also use the BlackBerry Pearl 8120 to make or receive voice calls in more than 200 countries”, brags the announcement.
They’re also offering push to talk and OTA music download subscription services. More details, pricing and availability can be found in the announcement.

I got another ‘relevant’ email from a friend the other day. Just wanted to share it with you all…Enjoy…

YOU KNOW YOU ARE LIVING IN 2008when…
- 1. You accidentally enter your PIN on the microwave.
- 2. You haven’t played solitaire with real cards in years.
- 3. You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of three.
- 4. You e-mail the person who works at the desk next to you.
- 5. Your reason for not staying in touch with friends and family is that they don’t have e-mail addresses.
- 6. You pull up in your own driveway and use your cell phone to see if anyone is home to help you carry in the groceries.
- 7. Every commercial on television has a web site at the bottom of the screen
- 8. Leaving the house without your cell phone, which you didn’t even have the first 20 or 30 (or 60) years of your life, is now a cause for panic and you turn around to go and get it.
- 10. You get up in the morning and go on line before getting your coffee.
- 11. You start tilting your head sideways to smile. : )
- 12. You’re reading this and nodding and laughing.
- 13. Even worse, you know exactly to whom you are going to forward this message.
- 14. You are too busy to notice there was no #9 on this list.
- 15. You actually scrolled back up to check that there wasn’t a #9 on this list.

Here is your chance to win a copy of the new Linux (Xubuntu) style theme we mentioned yesterday. As promised the author, Scott, has kindly offered to give a copy to two lucky readers. The theme is very slick so I hope you enjoy. You can see more about the theme on our original post.
Here are some screenshots of the theme:

Post a comment to this post with the nickname of your BlackBerry. If you don’t have one make one up, just please don’t call it crackberry! You can post as many comments as you want but only the best will be held for consideration. We will judge the nicknames based on originality and a couple of other proprietary algorithms. (Mostly based on whether they make us laugh)
Get your comment in by 11:59PM on Thursday March 20th 2008 to be eligible. We will post the two winners (hopefully) next Friday March 21st. If all does not go well we reserve the right to reserve the right to substitute any prize for a screenshot of a clapping monkey or nothing at all. (Sorry it has been a long night)
The theme is only available for the 7100, 8100, 8300, 8700, & 8800 series devices. You will get the theme in Zen, Icon, or Today style only. The install will be available OTA.
