BeFTP - BEIKS To Release Free FTP Client Soon

BEIKSLOGOI was just reading a thread on BlackBerryForums.com about a new version of BEIKS Noah Bible Viewer 4 and caught something interesting. It seems that BEIKS will shortly be releasing a free FTP client called BeFTP.

From their short description on BlackBerryForums:

We have also developed a free FTP client for BlackBerry called BeFTP. With BeFTP’s help one can download files directly to the media card from our FTP or other server, something, which we have not been able to achieve with the built-in browser. BeFTP can also be used as a very simple file manager.
There should be an official BeFTP announcement soon.

Sounds pretty cool to me. BEIKS also seems to have figured out how to maximize the use of the media card in newer devices. Even their new Noah Bible Viewer version 4 has support for media cards. Hopefully the new BeFTP client will do the same. Keep an eye out on www.beiks.com for more info.

LexSpell Spell Checker Version 2.1 Released

BlackBerry-SpellCheckDavid just sent us a tip that a new version of LexSpell has been released by BEIKS. We have mentioned LexSpell quite a few times in the past including an impressive review but it has really quieted down since RIM added their own native spell checker in OS 4.2.2. The new version of LexSpell fixes issues they had with version 2.0 which said it was an expired version.

If you remember LexSpell is free to use but you will get a nag screen after each spellcheck asking you to register. Registration is only $10 and now has an added benefit. If you register you will now have the option to automatically spellcheck an email before it is sent. BlackBerry OS 4.2.1 is now required to run LexSpell compared to the OS 4.0 requirement of the previous version. This may turn off users who were using LexSpell on older devices that do not have built in spellchecking capabilities.

You can read the product description here. The upgrade is free and can be picked up only OTA using the following link:

http://mobile.beiks.com/

According to the BEIKS website, desktop manager installation files are not currently available.

Microsoft Removes BlackBerry Sync Support In Entourage 2008

MacberryStefano just sent me a link to an article on MacWindows.com describing Microsofts dropped support of plugins/addons in Entourage 2008. I am no Mac expert but this could be a real pain for many people who were using The Missing Sync to keep their devices in sync. Supposedly this lack of plugins in Entourage means that The Missing Sync application can no longer provide direct BlackBerry syncing with Entourage 2008

Why is it that Mac users are always getting the shaft? After RIM started releasing some Mac compatibility with PocketMac it seems like Mac compatibility has taken 1 step forward and 2 backward.

Sorry guys. You can read the full article at this link on MacWindows.com.

Editorial: Ideal Customer Service

Over the last fortnight or so I have been dealing with the customer service division of a company we have featured in a couple of articles here at BerryReview. Since the purchases were of a personal nature and for my kids, I didn’t use my position as a reviewer to gain any advantage to get any ’special treatment’ and did not mention the BerryReview name at all. So our correspondence and how I was treated should reflect how every customer is treated.

800x600_otterbox.jpg

The company involved here is OtterBox. A couple of weeks ago when the Armor case for the iPhone came available in yellow I ordered a couple for my kids as I know how they treat their equipment. When the cases arrived, they didn’t quite work as I expected they would (I wont go into the details as the cases were for iPhone and I will leave that review for the Apple sites). I sent a quick email off to their web info address regarding the operation of the iPhone in the OtterBox Armor case and received a reply within 12 hours.

Their reply was to either refund after I return the product or replace, at no cost to me, the cases with a different style but still for the iPhone. Their friendly attitude was outstanding and they are by far, the most professional and customer orientated people I have ever had the pleasure in dealing with. If some companies out there took a leaf from the customer service book at OtterBox then business as we know it would be an absolute pleasure.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Jennifer and Kristin at OtterBox for their kind and professional service and if their bosses are reading this then you should know these guys are like gold these days so hold on to them, at any cost.

Thanks again guys…

Review: Bose Triport IE Headphones

boselogo_01.jpgReview: Bose Triport IE Headphones
Rating: ★★★★★★★★☆☆ 8/10
Link: www.bose.com
Cost: ranges around $99

Now, I might be a bit biased towards this review as just about every bit of sound hardware I have has the Bose logo printed on it somewhere. Home entertainment, outdoor sound system, iPod docking station and even my clock radio is all in this category. But I will try my best to stick to the facts and save my opinion to the end…

The Bose In Ear Headphones work well with a variety of portable sound devices including the BlackBerry. Keep in mind that there are two different versions of Bose Triport Earphones floating around. The new 2007 version comes with Black and White cabling and the older versions cables are only black. I can’t 100% confirm that but that is what I have heard and read on multiple places including Amazon. The newer version supposedly fixes the “falling out of ear” issue with updated gels.

DoneIn2Minutes Free With Purchase Of S4BB Task Applications

Donein2minutes_240x240222A bit back we mentioned DoneIn2Minutes from S4BB. DoneIn2Minutes is a glorified 2 minute timer for BlackBerry that lets you implement the 2 minute countdown on immediate tasks required by GTD.

For a limited time S4BB is giving away a free copy of DoneIn2Minutes (Usually $9.95) when you purchase one of their productivity applications.

These applications are:

NextAction! ($39.95), TaskMaster ($19.99), and HabitMaster ($24.95)

Personally I think DoneIn2Minutes should come standard with these applications but I guess S4BB has decided that a promotion is the better way to combine them.

You can read about the offer here on the S4BB website. Sadly the offer is not available in the BerryReview Store so no luck with the 20% off discount going on now. Personally I would just pick up a copy with the 20% discount and forget about the timer.  Different strokes you know?

Get 50% Off At Bplay.com By Filling Out A Survey

Bplay_logo_verysmallMagmic_orange_verysmallSimon at BBCool just found that Bplay, the BlackBerry portal for Magmic games, is now offering users the option to take a 40 question survey and get a 50% off coupon at Bplay.com for your time. I think that is a pretty sweet deal but the survey does take awhile to fill out. It took me around 10–15 minutes to fill it out myself. It seems like Magmic is trying to do what RIM should by finding out what really makes their consumers tick. Expect questions about your gaming addiction and why you love your BlackBerry.

Head on over to the link below to fill in the survey and get a coupon emailed to you:
