Cherri Chiodo just released two themes that really impressed me. There is one for the guys and one for the girls. The first, Pink Blossom is a beautiful theme that really catches the eye. The icons are a bit understated for me but they do look nice. The xBerry theme seems to be a rip from the Xbox with a great but again understated icon set. I love the green (my favorite color).

Definitely worth checking out. They are $6.99 each which is on the high end for themes. The themes are available for the 8100, 8300, & 8800 series devices. The 8700 series is also supported BUT YOU MUST HAVE OS 4.2!!!

Simon at BBCool has gotten some more confirmation on the feature sets of OS 4.5 and 4.6. OS 4.5 is still set to release this summer for everything but the 8707 which is what we expected. I am surprised it is including the 8703 versions but that has happened before.
They also have confirmed OS 4.6 for 2nd half of 08 with more of less the same features we have seen before. This time there are new screenshots of the iTunes sync, clock, & web browser upgrades.
Check out the 4.6 screenshots at this link and the 4.5 news at this one.
PS: BBcool is undergoing a Wordpress update today so you may experience some funkyness with their site. Right now it is showing the mobile version of their website to everybody.

Bplay has just released another set of themes from their Star Wars collection. I guess movie themes are a real hit. This latest list includes the Star Wars characters Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, & the Stormtroopers theme. Personally I liked the Boba Fett theme the best. These themes use the same icon set as the first Star Wars themes with the images changed.

You can pick them up for $4.99 each at this link. They are compatible with the 8100, 8300, & 8800 series devices.

I know this is a bit old but it has been a day to dig up old news. One of our readers, Doug, sent in a question asking how he can improve his reminders on his BlackBerry. I humbly pointed out www.iwantsandy.com as a free service that lets you setup email reminders.
Its as easy as sending an email to Sandy to remind you to do something. Sandy will then send you a reminder before the item is due. She will also jot things down for you to follow up on, etc. Its essentially also a to do list manager.
Worth a try if you find that the reminder function in the BlackBerry calendar is not doing it for you. You can even setup an exception in your profile to make Sandys reminders stick out.
Check it out at www.iwantsandy.com

So this is the first Indiana Jones game for the BlackBerry. Just in time with the movie release. I remember playing Indiana Jones on my 486.
Its an adventure side scrolling game that looks really cool with Indy’s whip and all. I just hope they got the controls right. Sadly there is no trial but hopefully we can squeeze out a review for you soon.

Urbanimpulse has released a hot theme for the BlackBerry 8300 & 8800. The theme has a very clean and slick top menu with translucent background. The profiles icons looks really good. I also like the custom icons but the lack of color kind of turned me off. The yellow in the menu’s looks nice with the black and grey highlights. You will also notice that there are only 4 icons on the zen menu. All in all well done.

You can pick up the theme for Desktop Manager download only at BlackBerryForums. (you may need an account to download but it is free) Hopefully the developer will release OTA links soon.

Nice Work!!!

I just got an email from CityMint.com that they just launched a great service for San Francisco users. It is a mobile website that lets you order food from your BlackBerry. I cant attest to how good it is since I do not live there but I wish seemlessweb.com would offer the same service. Here is to hoping…
So far CityMint has 80 San Francisco restaurants with more coming. They are planning to branch out to other metro areas in the near future. Hopefully New York is next.
Anybody in San Francisco want to let us know how it works?
From the press release:
SAN FRANCISCO, CA–(Marketwire - May 22, 2008) - Diners can now save valuable time when ordering food so they can enjoy more of it eating. CityMint today launched an easy and convenient service for ordering food in advance from a mobile phone or online. Offering interactive “clickable” menus, initially from San Francisco restaurants and cafes, diners can accurately place orders for pickup or delivery at favorite neighborhood haunts — whether it be Mexican, salads, Italian, sushi or other food fare — as well as popular hot spots like Brandy Ho’s, Harvest & Rowe and Bistro Burger.
The CityMint service brings the convenience and speed of online advance ordering to on-the-go consumers for a variety of restaurants by giving them the option to place orders on the PC, or from their phone via text messaging or mobile web. Patrons can even save orders for instant future ordering.
“People are busier today than ever before, and their mobile phone is always along for the ride. Consumers are always on the look out for new additions to their mobile lifestyle,” says Frank Kuo, CityMint cofounder and chief executive officer. “Whether you’re a student, entrepreneur or soccer mom, our service saves you priceless time and hassle when ordering breakfast, lunch and dinner.”
CityMint customers set up an account online to search by cuisine or delivery area and discover new restaurants by browsing interactive restaurant menus. When diners find something they like, they simply click on the food items to place their order in advance from wherever they are. Each order is then delivered to the restaurant and verified with the diner receiving confirmation and approximate time for food pickup or delivery. Payment is automated through the CityMint service, so diners just pick up their food or open the door when it’s delivered. No wait, bother, showing a credit card or breaking change.
Available for all PC and mobile users with text messaging or Web features, CityMint is also optimized for the iPhone, Blackberry and Palm Smartphones with intuitive, easy-to-use Web ordering and search.

I have always heard that RIM was a great company to work for but I finally decided to do some research on the WHY. Turns out there is this great website www.eluta.ca that explains why RIM was chosen to be one of the top 100 places to work in Canada.
My favorite is onsite cafeteria (with subsidized meals, healthy and special diet menu items, subsidized vending machines)
The highlights from the full report:
- gives employees a free BlackBerry on their first day and covers usage and service fees
- offers tuition subsidies to employees and is only a short walk to the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University
- celebrated its 20th anniversary by hosting a private concert for employees that featured Aerosmith and the Barenaked Ladies
- lets all employees share in the company’s success by offering a profit-sharing plan and year-end bonuses
- helps employees plan for retirement with matching RSP contributions
- provides onsite massage services, flu shot clinics and discounted gym memberships to help employees stay healthy
- doubled its BlackBerry subscriber base last year, creating over 2,000 new jobs worldwide and increasing its revenues by 47% to over $3 billion
- has additional Canadian locations in Mississauga, Ottawa and Halifax
So do you know any reasons that they missed? Or is it all sugar coating for a horrible slave labor sweatshop?
