The Storm seems to be getting quite a few iPhone-y-like (read useless) apps recently. The latest comes from Fabian in the form of a mop that virtually cleans your screen without actually accomplishing anything. I guess that its a good thing that its free. You can pick it up in the store at this link.
From the description:
What? Your screen is dirty? Instead of cleaning it with a cloth, do it virtually! The application simulates splashes on the screen and then out of nowhere a mop appears and you can tilt your BlackBerry to clean off those splashes. Download the zip for a ReadMe file on how to use the application. Hold the Storm in Portrait Mode when you start the Application.
It has been awhile since we mentioned BBScreenShooter on BerryReview. BBScreenShooter is a free screenshot application for BlackBerry that was recently updated to version 1.65a. I just found out about the update and I have to say I am impressed. The whole look has not changed much but there are a few differences that i have noticed from version 1.62b that I was using previously.
Better support for the Storm & Bold (though it still fails every once in awhile)
A nice new progress bar showing you the progress of the screenshot
A new update check button on the bottom left (Just click the “!”)
All in all this is a great application by Oppitronic. I hope they keep up the good work. The only caveat with BBScreenShooter is that it requires javaloader.exe which Oppitronic is not allowed to include with the download. Though you can get it free if you download the BlackBerry JDE or just search the forums for a link. Not sure why RIM is so anal about stuff like that. Its not like the JavaLoader can be used on a non-BlackBerry device…
David let me know about a slick new application from Swoosh Software called BerryTweak. (Surprisingly it does not have Swoosh in the name ) It adds a few system options that I wish RIM would add natively. I have been looking for an all-in-one customization utility for BlackBerry and this is the closest I have found so far. It has a free 3 day trial after which you can pick it up in the store for a very lean $2.95. I really hope Swoosh Software keeps on rounding this app out with more features and options.
From the description:
BerryTweak will automatically lock the screen and keyboard during calls to prevent accidental input. BerryTweak will also vibrate on key phone events so you can be sure you started or ended a call. To stop the screen lighting up your face BerryTweak can automatically turn the backlight off during calls. All the options are fully configurable.
Hedone Design now has their two most popular themes, OSX Like and Se7en, available for the Blackberry Storm. Cannot say I have personally tested either theme for the Storm (Don’t own the Storm, but have tested both on the Bold and they work fab!) but as Hedone states on the website, “…this is not the final version of this theme!!! When the new CDK is released, this theme will be modified and upgraded so that you’ll get the final version as soon as possible!” That said, some may choose to wait until the final version is available. If you simply cannot wait, I wouldn’t worry too much as IMO Hedone knows his stuff when it comes to designing themes. If you want more information however, I would suggest visiting Hedone Design for details before purchasing.
Both are available at our Berryreview store for $7.00 via the links below. However, the first 20 people to purchase either theme can use a special code to receive 20% off! Coupon codes (listed next to each theme link) are only good until tomorrow (the 25th) so hurry on down if you’re planning on getting either theme! A big thanks to Hedone Design for this special offer.
Just wanted to let all of the Qik fans know that they have updated their BlackBerry app from 0.0.10 to 0.0.11. Once again there is no change log so let me know what you find in the comments. The last release 0.0.10 brought experimental 8900 & OS 4.3 support along with quality and performance enhancements.
In case you don’t remember when we mentioned it, Qik is a free app that lets you stream live video from your BlackBerry to their site. You can then easily transfer it to YouTube from their site.
So I am throwing it out there. Anybody notice anything new in this latest version? While you are at it did you find some cool use for it that you would like to share?
First Seidio released a 1600mAh battery for the 8900 Curve that did not require a special back cover. That was pretty cool but only gave you 15% more battery life for $44.95. Now they have really taken it a step further by releasing a 2600mAh extended battery for the 8900 that should give you days of power. The only downside is that it requires a special back cover which kind of ruins the sleek look of the 8900. On the other hand you are getting 90% more battery life than the original.
I am not sure why things are looking so dire for Sprint. They are doing better than last quarter but they are still bleeding money and subscribers. This past quarter they lost $1.62 billion last quarter even with $8.4 billion in sales. They also lost 1.3 million customers leaving them with 49.3 million customers at the end of the quarter.
I know Sprint is really trying hard to turn things around. It is seriously hedging its bets on WiMAX and the Palm Pre but it makes me wonder if it is enough. At the very least they need to find a way to start increasing their subscriber count or stop running in the red.
So does anybody have any good news about Sprint? Did you move to a different carrier from Sprint this past quarter? If so why did you leave?
Dmglakewood released a slick and fun application for the Storm called StormSketch. It is essentially an Etch-a-sketch for your BlackBerry if you remember what that is. You draw on the screen using your finger and then shake it left and right to clear the screen.
