RIM posted their financial numbers for the past quarter yesterday and things look good. On the other hand RIM came in below analyst estimates so investors are not all happy. I am not much for analyzing financial results so I will leave that to others. I will post some highlights below from Alley Insider comparing the actual results to analyst predictions. Its interesting to see that even though RIM reported a 72% increase in revenues their shares fell 16%. I love that number of 2.6 million new BerryReview readers BlackBerry users.
- Revenue: $2.58 billion vs. $2.60 billion consensus
- EPS: $0.86 vs. $0.87 consensus
- Net Sub. Adds: 2.6 million vs. 2.6 million (RBC, AmTech), 2.7 million (Citi)
- Device Shipments: 6.1 million vs. 6.1 million (AmTech, Citi), 6.3 million (RBC)

Capcom has been on a roll recently with BlackBerry games. They have really managed to score some top tier titles. Paul just let me know about their latest release: Resident Evil: Genesis for BlackBerry. Can’t really tell how good the gameplay is but it kind of reminds me of Street Tactics and Call Of Duty from Bplay. Who ever thought you would get a chance to pull out a flame thrower on your Berry.
The game is available for $9.99 now at Handmark and once again there is no trial… Go figure. Anybody want to help me flood their support with a request for a trial?

From the description:
As one of the last remaining survivors of the elite S.T.A.R.S. police unit, the player must negotiate a crumbling mansion overrun with zombies and horrific preternatural mutations. Enemy encounters are unexpected and ammunition is limited, so the tension is high and every shot counts.
Features:
-Missions are designed with the mobile experience in mind allowing player to save their progress after short intervals of play.
-Players take control of elite S.T.A.R.S. officer Jill Valentine as they attempt to free themselves from an Umbrella Corporation stronghold.
-Unleash six unique and deadly weapons including a combat knife, 9mm automatic, magnum revolver, shotgun, grenade launcher, and flame thrower.

I was reading about Umbrella Today on Mashable yesterday and could not help but post about it. I check the weather every day to answer one simple question. Do I need to bring an umbrella or not?
Umbrella Today just lets you enter your zip code and lets you know if you should carry along your umbrella. If you want you can also sign up for SMS alerts to let you know every day if you need your umbrella.
There is a certain beauty in simplicity…

So it has been a few weeks since we talked about Elecite, but they have just released some really neat looking themes. While these themes do cost $6.99 and require OS 4.5 to work correctly, I can personally attest to the fact that they are worth every penny. When you purchase a theme from Elecite, they will customize the theme so that the icons that you want are on the home screen. I have been using their BlackPack theme for over a month now and I love it.

Their newest theme is called Scion. I can tell you right now, this theme is going to be popular. The theme sports a round home screen with all of the most popular applications and services. The background looks like wood or even a cork board, very slick. The menus in the theme are also done very well, the background is black with white text and clean brown buttons. This is one great looking theme!
Head on over to the Elecite website for more information or to purchase one of these themes. Note that these themes are available for 81XX, 87XX, 83XX and 88XX devices running OS 4.5. I even received word that they have acquired a copy of Plazmic 4.6. Here are some of the things that we will soon be seeing; option to set your own home screen icons at anytime, more animation and trans effects as well as new sets of backgrounds for each screen (home, apps, etc).

I just spotted a slick new BlackBerry commercial on CrackBerry that I thought all of you would enjoy. Turns out that while AT&T is dragging its heels with the Bold our neighbors up north are coming up with some slick advertisements.
Check it out for yourself below. Not the best of quality but enough to get the picture.

It’s been only two days or so since Plazmic 4.6 was out on the wild and developers have been busy working on themes for the Bold. The Bold has been out for a few months now outside the US and any users in the US are rocking unlocked Bolds. So if your been bored of the same theme on your Bold your wait will hopefully soon be over. Developers are trying to find ways to work around the bugs in Plazmic 4.6 but it looks like it is only a matter of time.
The first theme that I found which I like is the Scarface theme Videos4Bb has released over at www.blueroomsolution.com. I do not have a Bold so I can’t really tell you if these themes work so DL at your own risk.

The theme looks really nice. Especially with those new red looking icons which in my opinion look way better to me than the original black and white colors the Bold comes with. The theme has bottom dock icons which should be user customizable but I cant confirm that. To get the theme simply point your browser to this OTA link or www.blueroomsolution.com from your desktop.
This second theme is by DjSmooth called 3D2 Bold over at www.pinstack.com this theme has the original bold icons with some cool background images and the theme itself is a Today Plus bottom Zen with only the calendar icon as the today screen.

To get your hands on this one just head over the the OTA link
This is some of the first themes out there but am sure over the weekend themers are going to busy working to crank out those great themes we all love to sport. Let us know if you spot any other gems!

With the pitiful effort that RIM has put into Mac support I applaud the Barry team for paving their own way with Linux support for their Berrys. Josep let me know that Barry has released version 0.14 which fixes a couple of bugs that had come up. This is totally still a work in progress but it is amazing how far they have come.
Main features in this release:
- memory exhaustion bug fixed in opensync plugin
- documentation updates, including pre-built doxygen output in source tar
- new field support: Birthday, Location, Description, Anniversary
- new TMobile US ppp script
- fixed error message in breset
- binary packages now have proper names (libbarry0)
- backup GUI can now reference multiple devices by name instead of PIN
Check out the full changelog and release notes at this link or you can download the latest version at this link.
