   I have had my 8900 for 2 years and 1 month now. It still works fine but only because it has had a major overhaul. New housing, new trackball, and new battery. All very much needed to keep it going and looking good. Without any hardware changes it would have made it about a year and a half.

   It got me thinking, what's the longest time you have used a BlackBerry for and which model was it? I'm betting the older models with trackwheels would last 20 years if you still wanted to use them.

   It seems like RIM started out making solid devices, then slacked off and is only now starting to produce quality equipment that will stand the test of time.

   Ive only used 3 different BBs. The 8320, 9700, and the 9650. The 9700 had hands down the best battery life. The 8320 I had was old and I'm not sure what the battery life wason it, when it was new, but I've heard good things about its battery life as well.

   What about other hardware besides the battery? Would the 9700 last longer than say your 8320?

   I would say yes. The 9700 was extremely solid.

   Was and still is, I've decided I'm keeping mine through the end of the year at least. I just got a new laptop, playbook soon, and my 9700 is running great and I have a 16gb card on it.

   Plenty of fun...between an hour + commute to NYC some days, desk work on other days, the gym...9700 is always nearby

   i think 8320 or 9000 does it well.

   That's how I feel about my 9650. Its my trusty sidekick.

    My 8310 was quite durable. I was out rollerblading with my dog when she suddenly decided to go after something. I nearly wiped out but my phone was thrown from it's holster and bounced several times on the pavement. I was mortified. But when I picked it up, it had a few scratches was otherwise unharmed. Even the battery cover stayed on. I've had my 8900 slip out of my hand and fall onto a carpeted floor and the battery cover popped off.

    Agreed with that. but other than the batt cover and the trackball (maintenance frequently), its pretty good!

    My wife's 9670 got run over by several cars while it was open and that bad boy still works. The outside screen is broken, but everything else is fully functional. And if forgot to mention there was snow on the road.
