As a sort of follow up from his last article about the alleged discontinuation of the Storm name, Chris Esparza has gotten his hands on some info about the first legit 4G Blackberry and which carrier will get it. His secret minions tell him that T-Mobile will likely be first to get RIM's next all-touch device and it will be 4G capable. Esparza is careful to caution that all of this is rumor and here-say at this point. So, "apply generous amounts of salt when reading this."

While I do certainly take all rumors with a grain of salt, I would hope that RIM is working on at least one 4G phone at this point.

I really hope RIM jumps into the 4G game soon. I'm a little bummed abiut it going to Tmobile, but it would be good to see it. Hopefully the Bold Touch wil also have 4G.

I think it would be awesome if all the phones this year had 4G. Why buy a phone without 4G and be stuck with it for 2 years when you could either wait for a Blackberry that does 4G later down the line or (worse yet) buy Android. Not including 4G could hurt sales. What better reason is there for including it?

Having all phones this year would be awesome, but I don't see it happening based on RIM's past track record of lagging behind in key areas. I realize this is changing quickly, but we'll see.

They need to step it up a bit. If everyone else releases 4G phones and they don't, they will probably slide a little further behind - at least until the QNX phones hit.

I know the past has taught us that RIM is slow with certain things, but things have been changing in a very good way. I really hope they release an 4G phone this year. That would really show us that they are really changing the way they do things.

Since it's T-Mobile, I'm assuming by "4G" they mean HSPA+. Certainly not out of the realm of possibility. I believe some of the leaked slides of future phones indicated HSPA 14.4 radios.

Not sure how much cred this guy has, in December his "sources" said the Playbook would be released the day after CES opened.

To be fair, he did say that it was rumored. He didn't say this would happen for sure. It does sound like his 'spies' are a little eager and they have proven to be wrong in this case. Granted he was a little excited about the possibility of getting his rumor-mongering hands on the PlayBook sooner rather than later.

Honestly though, I don't see how this could have ever been a possibility for RIM. There is no way they would have been close to ready for release in January IMO. What about app development and advertising? We still haven't seen much advertising and we're counting down to about a month until the next rumored (but much more likely) release date.

Well, I hope he is right and his source is credible. I would really love to see a 4G BlackBerry.
