Is there any way to not have it checked automatically? It's kind of annoying to have to unsubscribe every time I forget to un-select it myself.

Depends on which comments they are. Forums are not subscribed by default but topics on the main page are selected by default. Just uncheck the option...it is below your posting box.

Yeah we simply did it based on user usage. On the blog most people want to be subscribed. On the forums its the other way around.

Yea, I know how to unsubscribe, but I'd get way too many emails if I wanted to be subscribed to follow-ups.

what I do, is go and comment on all the threads/blog I want to comment to.
Then in bulk i go and edit my subscriptions to which ones I want to de-subscribe to.

Seems like it would be a simple thing, but I *always* forget to uncheck that damned box :D (Comma he says as he receives the 60th email from the "haters" flamefest on the front page.)
Edit: oddly, it seems like 30 of them are from cattonb.
Cattonb: slow down, dude... increased volume of one-sentence posts isn't going to convince anybody that they're wrong...
