Any updates on a Kindle app being released for the playbook (or heck, any alternative to Kobo for that matter)? Shopping on Amazon, I get the impression from their site that they maybe have something going with Android and are going to abandon other platforms now, blackberry included. The Kindle app was one of the very first apps announced and yet, we haven’t seen or heard anything after almost 2 months passed Playbook release mid-April. Same with an Amazon music store app for playbook. Has anyone heard or seen anything?

I read some conflicting comments on Amazon’s Kindle forum

The Kindle app was supposed to come to playbook around June 1st or 2nd (some posting on CB) but obviously that hadn’t happened.

On the Kindle forum people are speculating that the Kindle app will be part of the bundle of apps being ported over to PB from the Android platform. Makes me go hmmm.. on that one. I don’t know why I think it’s questionable, but it would seem kind of unwieldy to read your books that way, but hey I’m not a developer so (shrugging shoulders) maybe??

But on the Kindle forum some of the posters are getting antsy and have already said that they’ll stick to Kobo if Kindle doesn’t come to the table soon. THey’ve already started to buy some books from Kobo and seemingly have had no problems with it and are enjoying it. So, if Kindle doesn’t watch out they’ll lose these customers (according to posters).

Maybe the app is going through the approval process with BB. I hear it can take a while to get it’s way through due to testing and probably how it reacts to their security protocols… guess we’ll have to see.

I’ve switched to Kobo, I actually like their store better but prices are a little higher so if Kindle comes I might switch back, but I’ve essentially moved on.

The Kobo spp is nice, but I’m not using as I can’t put my own books into the library

There seems to be a new e-pub reader app on the playbook.

I have download it & it’s not bad. You can load your own books. There is no option to tun pages just scroll through the book.

There are a few option to change font, the colour scheme and return to the table of contents.

I have a kindle and a playbook. I just don't use the kindle that much. I tend to use the kindle app on the playbook. I don't know why that's just my usage habit. I agree with your analysis in theory but my physical kindle just sits on the shelf.
