How to recognize a BB noob

I was thinking today about how many people there are out there who are either totally new to BlackBerry (or technology in general), or who don't care to figure anything out.

I thought of three easy ways to identify these people:

1.) You hear one of the default notifications...three times consecutively. On older BB's I believe it was the default setting to have your notifications repeat three times. I hear it all the time and I feel like helping the person out, but then I remember. They probably don't care.

2.) Typing with anything other than 2 thumbs. Everyone knows the best way to type on a BB is with your thumbs right? Wrong. I've seen too many people either typing with both index fingers, or one finger and one thumb. Sad.
3.) No BBM contacts (pause for gasp). I know its shocking, but I think it happens more than we realize. I've seen this more than once and I'm still recovering from the shock. I call it, "oh-THAT's-what-that-icon-is-for-itis". I know, it makes me a little nauseous just thinking about it too.

How do you recognize a BB noob?

If you get a look at the home screen and it's one of the default carrier themes, they're probably a noob. The typing with fingers thing gives them away too.

Hahaha! I totally forgot about default themes! Some people prefer the default themes because they don't mind the look or they don't care enough to change it. I find people with older devices rocking the default zen themes are usually noobs. :) Those with newer devices, especially running 6.0 don't have too many other theme options out there right now and the default theme is cool IMO.

Perhaps you'd like to expand upon that. What's good? What can be contradicted? It's not like we are saying that only a noob would have their BB set up a particular way. It's just common tell-tale signs.

No BBM contacts is an easy one to spot. Most of the people in my circle don't know much about their phones in general not just BBs. Its very frustrating.

Exactly what I was going to say. Please tell us more fubaz. These things are by no means absolute; just fun things to think about. :)

I hear ya. My wife's boss used to comment about how many bars he had on his phone until she pointed out that he was looking at the battery meter.

He actually kept the phone off unless he needed to make a call. It never dawned on him that somebody might actually want to call him.

Keep in mind that he is in his late 60s so he's definitely out of touch with technology. He used to get excited at the end of the day and buzz my wife's extension to her her know he shut down Windows.

Well, I hated the AT&T default theme enough that if you don't have at least one other theme on your blackberry, I'd consider you a noob. Unless you're on BES and there are limitations set. In which case, find a new employer :)
