Not calling you out babis (I know you're not the author) but I absolutely can't stand journalists who can't write a title for their piece....RIM did not FUEL nor IS TO BLAME for the riots. RIM products were present, utilized...in process of carrying out crimes, that is it. It's misleading at best, poor lazy journalism at worst. Did you know more than half of the rioters took the trains to the riot areas? I don't either, they may or may not have but following that title, the train companies would also be to blame and pick any popular clothing company that the rioters might have been wearing and let's blame them as well. This is not the first and only example either. Point is, I'm not even sure why this article was even written.

Oh lord. how can you blame RIM? Not the rioters fault? Its not like its hard, send cops to where the rioting is. I have friends there that say no cops have been present. Can't blame the devices. Guess the rioters couldn't get owls to pass messages due to be in the movies just as J.K. Rowling had put them in her books. So I say blame her.

How is BB to blame? Did that many people simultaneously get sick of having to do battery pulls? :)

LOL @ Kiddo...
What it highlights is the power of BBM and also why Apple all the sudden want to have their version, iMessage out soon.
Is BBM to blame, heck no, just like it isn't to blame for the Egyptian riots (guess what they were using to organize, but wasn't posted on FB), just like Rim wasn't to blame for the stupid Vancouver hockey riots (news photos showing people holding up their BBs and shooting photos etc and posting onto FB).
Smart phone technology has the ability to make everyone a rioteer or a big brother. Smartphones give everyone their 15 minutes of fame and for people who post on BBM or FB their crimes, well they're just simply too stupid to be allowed to procreate and they deserved to be caught! :D
This is technology and social media colliding.
I don't think that iPhone or Android users were any less guilty. Or maybe these phones didn't survive the push and shove of a riot and fell apart before they can do/shoot anything interesting... LOL :) who knows... This is however sensational journalism along the the lines of National Enquirer.
Although in a weird round about way I see it giving BB the cool inner urban attitude... y'know, if you didn't have a BB you wouldn't be clued into exactly what was happening immediately and you'd have to wait for your news like mumsy in herefordshire... ;)

The big question is:
Will RIM give the English Police the BBMs sent between the rioters?
That's what the English Police have allegedly asked RIM to do - to hand over the messages and contact details of persons who mention certain phrases in their BBMs.

It will never happen rim can't give them nothing even if they do if a person has a encrypted berry there's nothing rim can give them or if its not encrypted bbm messages can't be seen by rim itself so the English police is loosing at this point

RIM has the key to decrypt those BBM messages

Once the messages, pictures etc are published on FB it becomes public property and the English police do not need Rim to give them any of the info.
If it's BBM messages, once sent it will no longer sit in any servers except on the deliverer and receipients phones.
What the police may be able to do is get Rim to give them the BBIDs/PINs for some of the people that they have reasonable cause to believe was involved in instigating, organizing the riots etc.
If the posters are stupid enough to post on any social media websites all that info is public property, or if they're caught on TV doing it that also is public domain. That was the case here with our recent hockey riots.

true but the thing that is really funny now is that they are treating to leak out all RIM info if they help the authorities
