Over the last couple of years the mobile platform market has gotten very competitor with several different companies entering the fray looking to come out victorious. Leading the pack are platforms like Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS with RIM’s BlackBerry OS hanging in their but sometimes being deemed less feature intensive than its competitors.
Luckily, for RIM loyalists, the company does have plans to improve the platform dramatically as time goes on with some information regarding said improvements being made known today. As you’re sure to know the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet isn’t powered by the BlackBerry OS at all but instead a seperate intuitive platformed dubbed QNX. Additionally, we’ve also known in the past that RIM will eventually be combining these platforms into one for use on both future smartphones and tablets alike.
Well today information has arose that says BlackBerry OS 7 will in fact be a combination both BlackBerry OS 6.1 and the PlayBook’s QNX platform into one as a projector RIM is apparently calling internally the Highlander project. Unfortunately we don’t have more information as to what exactly BlackBerry OS 7 will entail in terms of specific features but we’ll certainly keep you posted as we’re as anxious to know as you are. Stay tuned!
