Key points:

- fast single processor
- Q1 2012
- Ahead of schedule!!!!

This makes 100% sense to me.

There is no need for dual core on a smartphone, no need.

I would take good battery life over the minimal improvements in function a dual core would provide.

BGR puts up a picture of a Bold, but, makes no mention of the form-factor that the Colt is

If they do get this out 1st quarter 2012, that would be amazing

I am still told the first QNX phone will be a full touch slab, but, who knows, they are probably testing multiple form factors

It begs the question as to the current phones being compatible with QNX. They are running 1.2ghz single core processor.

Didn't Lazaridis say that QNX needed dual cores? I read the article again, and I'm starting to get skeptical. It doesn't make sense to me.

I think the QNX needs to be dual core cuz you need that processing power for LTE.

Babisboi, I think you're correct, Lazaradis did say it would be dual core.

PB is dual core on QNX.

However that being said, I still think we will see a QNX phone in 2012 but probably around April or May and not any sooner.

In a sick short of way, I like the idea the first phone may be a single core. Then perhaps the phones being released this summer/fall may be backwards compatible.

like they leaked the info out in the middle of the summer this was mike words out his mouth "We have qnx on new touchscreen blackberries running dual cores already" and he went on talking about how it would look and thats when he said it would look and function just like the playbook dont know if he was trying to create a buzz or what not but a friend i know that works in one of the data centers for verizon said rim names on there LTE list apple is on that list also

I believe Mike said it, but, I don't think he meant that QNX would NOT work on single cores.

I think at the time he likely assumed that dual cores would be further along by this time, but, they are not

They are still very power hungry.

It was rumoured a while ago that they were testing both dual and single cores.

QNX can run on single fine. QNX is just very well suited for multiple cores, so, from a performance standpoint it would be better to be on multiple cores.

To be honest, repeating what I have been saying recently, I don't think a single core experience is all that different from dual core experience right now.

If it was a 1.4 or 1.8 ghz single core... that would destroy most 1.0 ghz dual cores

I'm hoping this might be the case too. The OS7 phones look great as is but would be even more impressive with QNX.

only thing dual core has is one or more core can shut down and conserve battery power but we havent seen that yet in none of the dual core phones in the market

its not different on a single core but with a 1.4ghz or 1.8ghz it would destroy a lot of 1ghz but with motorola talking about quad-core its a matter of time before it touch a smartphone even with qualcomm with there big announcement of new processors & name changing RIM better to at they neck with QNX its now or never

I still don't understand how lack of BES & BIS support would make it functional. RIM is known for security & push services and without BES & BIS support that's not going to work.

Can someone throw some light on it??

All blackberries would have easy connection to BES & BIS thats RIM sweetspot now if your talking about with the playbook they have to rewrite a lot to there email servers in order for it to run on the playbooks without a radio then it had to go through a certification process again which is BS if rim gives up on either service we can all jump off the ship sorry but its true

The BGR report only mentions BES, not BIS.

I don't think it not having BES support out of the box is that big a deal, depending on the wait time of course.

Remember, RIM doesn't need to make a huge comeback in the BES world

RIM needs to make a comeback in the BIS world.

If the Colt doesn't have BES out of the box and needs to wait 2-4 months... thats fine imo.

Where is this non support of BES or BIS rumour originating form? BGR??? If so puhleeezzzeee!!!

BES and BIS is the backbone of Rim. Its the core functionality of a blackberry phone.

Rationally would Rim walk away from multimillion dollar contracts with governments and multinational corporations by putting out their next gen phone not capable of BES/BIS? That just doesn't make any kind of sense to me on any kind of level.

That scenario is tantamount to Apple walking away from iTunes... smh.
