    Not sure if this had been tested before, but I was able to play media files over the network, using the smb protocol. 6 channels AC3 works, but not DTS. Some files don't even start, but it could just be a problem with the native player.

    i use mkv with ac3 and it works great!

    How did you get it to connect over SMB? Am i missing something?
