He let me know that he has updated the files available and added support for the BlackBerry Tour.

It has been possible for quite awhile to add Hebrew fonts to your BlackBerry by installing a multilingual OS on your device but you had to hunt around for the right one. The problem is that you had to reinstall your OS to get the Hebrew font to work which turned away many people who were interested.

That is why Nathan created a simple download page where you can easily find the right files to install Hebrew fonts on your device. The best part is that you do not need to reinstall your OS to get Hebrew fonts since this installs like an application. Currently you can add the read only fonts OTA but if you want to be able to write with the fonts you will need to do this using the desktop install files on the same page.

Jerry let me know that Amazon has already lowered the price on the Verizon BlackBerry Tour to $99. It looks like that price is only good for new individual contracts. The price goes up to the regular $199.97 if you are upgrading or adding to a family plan.

Since the Tour was launched there has been quite a bit of chatter about how some shipped with defective trackballs. I know many people have taken their devices back to Verizon with some success in terms of replacing them. I cannot confirm if there are actual defective trackballs but RIM does provide a hidden testing application that was found awhile back to test certain parts of your BlackBerry to see if they are functioning correctly. Freebirds87 was kind enough to remind everybody on the BBOS forums about this little tool.

The tests available are:

Trackball & keyboard

MISC – (light sensor, backlight, LED, etc.)

Handset audio

Headset audio

Bluetooth audio

RF components

GPS

I have yet to see anything fail on any of these tests but please email in screenshots of failures if you do get them!

I just got word from quite a few tipsters that OS 4.7.1.42 has been found in the wild for the Tour. Here is to hoping it fixed the issues found in the release OS.

Download @ Megaupload

IMPORTANT: Don’t forget to uninstall the RIM Internal Tools before installing the OS to your device!

Let us know what you find in the comments!

NOTE: Do not install this software if you do not know what you are doing. It may make your BlackBerry FUBAR or just plain angry.

Thanks Mcky, Steve, & Dominik via BlackBerryOS (I think…)

RIM has not released a camera-less BlackBerry since the 8830 (unless you count the 8350 camera-less version). Many people are not allowed to have ANY cameras at work so this is a real boon for government employees/consultants, lawyers, and more. I know many companies that are still issuing 8700’s and 8830’s because of the camera issue.
