Rogers customers can get excited about the fact that the 9700 Bold and 8520 Curve have found their way into the Rogers upgrade system. The BoyGenius claims that the 8520 will probably pop up around the beginning of October with the 9700 coming later that month.

The picture you see below is the Web’s very first official image of Research In Motion’s (RIM) latest–and currently unannounced–BlackBerry smartphone: The BlackBerry "Bold 9700" or Onyx, as it was codenamed.

"The BlackBerry ‘Onyx’ sports a premium experience and design with a high-gloss black finish and leather grain detail on the back. Boasting features such as high-speed 3G Web browsing, Wi-Fi calling, visual voicemail and support for corporate and personal e-mail options, the ‘Onyx’ will satisfy all your on-the-go needs. Also the phone comes preloaded with mobile applications from BlackBerry App World, including Amazon MP3 store for quick and easy music downloads and TeleNav GPS Navigator for turn-by-turn directions."

You can see T-Mobile’s still using the name "Onyx," probably because RIM hasn’t made the device official yet, but this is indeed the BlackBerry Bold 9700 that I predicted would be coming to T-Mobile. And it looks like my timeframe was dead on, as well, because T-Mobile says it plans to release the device before end of 2009. The new information was under embargo until early November, so you can expect an official announcement right around that time.

The device will also support UMA, or Wi-Fi calling, as part of T-Mobile’s HotSpot@Home service. And it looks as though RIM’s and/or T-Mobile’s partnering with Amazon.com, too, as the device will ship with an Amazon MP3 BlackBerry app. Amazon already offers a BlackBerry app, but I’m guessing/hoping the one that ships with the Bold 9700 is a revamped version, as I’m not at all impressed with the existing app’s very basic functionality.

One more thing: T-Mobile plans to release a white version of the new BlackBerry Curve 8520 next month.

Finally, I’d like to clarify my policy regarding contact on upcoming products. I never break embargoes or NDAs that I agree to honor. Never have, never (knowingly) will. However, I frequently receive e-mail messages from PR representatives which include information on new products and a "request" to honor an associated embargo. That doesn’t work for me. If you send along information to me before I agree to any embargo, it’s fair game.

TmoNews has been a pretty trusty source of rumors which is why I am mentioning it. This is big news since no BlackBerry to date has had the T-Mobile flavor of 3G since it runs on 1700Mhz which no other carrier in the world uses.

We got a look at this T-Mobile 9700 3G device back in August thanks to Kevin so it looks like the rumor mill is just starting on possible release dates.

Here is hoping that T-Mobile launches this soon!

First the BoyGenius caught a spec sheet for AT&T showing the BlackBerry 9700 coming to AT&T sometime in the next few months. The 9700 is essentially a new Bold with bumped up specs and a new trackpad instead of trackball.

Then came a thread on CrackBerry forums spotted by BBSync showing off the back and front of a unbranded BlackBerry 9700. Pictures at this link. Not sure who originally posted them since the thread is taking forever to load.

Kevin took things one step further by snapping a picture of a T-Mobile BlackBerry 9700 clearly showing it including 3G! No word on if this will ever see the light of day since we did see leaks of a T-Mobile 3G Bold back in the day that never actually got released…

Here is to hoping T-Mobile gets on the 3G BlackBerry bandwagon!

Thanks to everybody who sent these in!

This is some pretty nice news for those of us waiting for the upcoming BlackBerry 9700 upgrade to the Bold line. It has been spotted in both the Bell Canada and AT&T systems with screenshots for proof. This usually means that a release is not that far off… There has also been a spotting of a odd all white BlackBerry Bold. Not sure what that means since I have never seen RIM release an all white device unless it has been Colorware-ed.
