Yes, BB users have the advantage with DataSmart. However, since other phones don't have it, I think there would be an uproar if it was so incredibly easy to blow past your limits. I would hope that with 4G rolling out they will offer data plans that make sense for its higher data rate. AT&T currently offers 200MB and 2GB plans for 2G and 3G. With 4G, I would expect something more like 20GB and 200GB.

Its true that 4G speeds will make it easier to plow through data, but I don't see data plans with 20GB or 200GB limits any time soon. If anything, its a great opportunity for carriers to cash in on overages.

There is hope though. As Ronen pointed out in his article about T-Mobile planning 5GB+ plans, some carriers are realizing that consumers want more data!

200gb is A LOT of data. I'm sure the carriers will respond and have a higher allowance of data, but they are gonna take advantage of the data hungry public. If RIM can really implement Data Smart with their new phones, people may flock back to BlackBerries just to save money. Something else RIM should use to its advantage.

The only problem will be that they need to do something about data plans with 4G. Otherwise you could eat up your entire month of data in a single afternoon.

Very true. I'm interested to see how DataSmart will me implemented into the new lineup of BB's and the QNX line of the future. Will BB users still enjoy compressed data and lower usage as a result?

Well, the carriers want to make money, and as long as people are willing they going to charge a lot for it. Fortunately, we are BlackBerry users and our phones are extremely efficient.

I find it particularly interesting that the term 4G is thrown around so loosely when none of the carriers are technically delivering 4G based on the 4G specs.

Very true. It will good to see what LTE brings to the table. As dual core processors become the norm of high end phones, and the phones can actually keep up with the network, things should get very interesting.

All this talk of 2G, 3G and 4G can get confusing. Chris Ziegler of engadget wrote an extremely in-depth analysis and critique about the G's. Its very interesting how much marketing plays a role here.

Check out the article here.

They do have wifi only options in 16, 32 and 64GB models:

http://store.apple.com/ca/browse/home/shop_ipad/family/ipad

When was this, I thought the iPad was only available through carriers, all requiring a data plan? I stand corrected...

Totally. Hey iPad friend, would you mind taking some HD video of that robbery in progress for me?.....What? You can't record video on that thing? You can't even take a PICTURE? There's no APP for that?!...That's ok, I'll just do it with my PlayBook. Thanks anayway. Hahaha.

ahahahahahahhahahah. I can't wait to have a conversation like that. I have a friend who is a die hard Apple fan and a huge BlackBerry hater, so that will be moment I will treasure for a long time.
