1 week from the hard rumored 17th release date.

Less than 3 weeks before end of February

I am getting more pissed at RIM for not announcing anything.

Everyday that goes buy RIM loses customers.

Just phoned up Verizon to talk about my bill. At the end I asked if I could upgrade after a year like I could on AT&T. He said they wouldn't proactively offer me the upgrade but if I called in they might do that.

Then I said it was because the new BB 10 phones were coming out. He said ya they loook really good but they are very far behind and prob not a good idea to go with Blackberry again...

I sure as hell hope RIM knows they have these problems. The keep saying they have excellent carrier relations, but I know my sotry is not unique.

You can either cry or laugh, so : HA HA

This (<--- click here)is the kind of thing RIM needs to trumpet once BB10 comes.

The article points out that because of QNX, BB10 phones will be able to download and update the OS without ever turning the phone off. No other OS can match this. RIM need to screem this from the mountain tops and show all sorts of other phone downloading and rebooting to get the new OS.

Even if this is small practically they need to create the impression that this is a must and if you don't have it, your phone is out of date!

I know OS2 is not BB10, but for those using the developer version I'd like to know if it is on par with the iPhone.

For example do we still see things like disappearing apps when too many are open? Do you see a lot of high quality Android apps in App World?

We've had some good games come but when I spend sometime with the iPhone I noticed some very useful Apps like the OED (dictionary) that seemed to be totally on the iPhone (not accessed via web).

Are these things there?

Really just curious and also want to set my expectations correctly. if OS 2 is pretty comparable to iPhone we can hope that BB10 will allow RIM to focus on unique things rather than catch up things (not a negative comment, I'm just really curious).

Thanks

I heard OS7.1 has wifi hotspot capability and would love to try it out so I am interested in hearing what OS release people are on before upgrading myself. What has your experience been? I found OS7.1.0.74 on crackberry...is anyone on AT&T w/wifi hotspot enabled? (AT&T of course notorious for slow releases and blocking features).

I do not see another place for this post so please do not flame me.

My Storm2 is dieing rapidly and I do not want to use my upgrade for an OS7 phone as I want the BB10 phone. Anyone have a Storm2 they want to give away or sell.

I am sorely tempted to go the Verizon Galaxy Journal when they release it, but BB thoughts just will not go away. I would go to OS7 if I could afford a Playbook, but that is not in the books until the economy changes.

The media says no BBM on the playbook for OS 2.0. They are interpreting this a technical glitch (can't have same messages go to two PINS).

I think this is garbage. Isn't it more likely the case that RIM collects $5 from every data plan for use of it's netowrk and for this reason putting BBM free on the playbook is undesirable. RIM want you to buy a blackberry with a data plan to get BBM.

There may be some technical issues, but does RIM really have an incentive to solve them???

Just saw a sprint commercial full of floating iPhone Apps. The point of the commercial is that the iPhone has so many Apps why would you want to limit their use by being on limited data on ATT and Verizon.

My point however is of all the floating apps, which must be the "best" of them, ALMOST ALL OF THEM ARE ON MY BOLD 9930!!!!!

I understand that RIM might want to hold back until the new phones come but people really don't know that BBs pretty much have all the top apps.

SAN FRANCISCO—Chip vendor Qualcomm Inc reported record quarterly results Wednesday (Feb 1), that topped analysts' expectations, but revealed that the company is being investigated for compliance with the US law governing foreign business practices.

BBA Brian on "Quad Core"

I thought to myself today. With the news of Quad core in the iPad 3 and the SGS III, I wondered to myself....what percent of laptops have quad core.

I googled

Found this dated in July 2011 from a site

"It looks like laptops are set to get even faster, with almost half of all laptops shipped in 2015 expected to incorporate quad-core processors. This prediction was made by IHS iSuppli analysts in a new report dated July 12, which says that 160 million laptops, or 49 percent of laptops shipped in 2015, will incorporate quad-core processors--up from just 9 percent this year. Six-core chips are expected to make inroads too, rising from none, currently, to 18 percent of laptops in 2015.

In a statement reported on eWeek, Matthew Wilkins, principal analyst of compute platforms for IHS iSuppli said, "The cornerstone of PC performance, the microprocessor, is continuing to evolve to provide new levels of performance to the PC market...The battle now has moved from the dual-core segment into the quad-core area--and next will spread to the six-core realm."

For now, laptop vendors are expected to continue improving existing laptops in order to achieve all-day mobile computing. One of the ways this may be done is to integrate the chip responsible for graphics processing, known as the GPU, into the same piece of silicon as the CPU in order to reduce power consumption. Another would be the use of an external battery. For example, the battery life of Sony's new VAIO Z laptop can be expanded from its default 6.5 hours to 13 hours with the use of an optional battery "slice.""

Did you all read that... ONLY half of all laptops will have quad core by 2015!!! 2015!!

I reiterate. The public clearly doesn't care about having quad core over dual core in their laptops. They won't care about quad core in their Superphone.

Its just facts folks. They will not care.

So stop pissing and moaning about BB10 devices having "only" dual core.

Somtimes when I'm on Crackberry I click on WP Central stuff. Here is something posted over there and it made me think. Somtimes when we have only a Blackberry and we hear all the crap we tend to think that only blackberries have issues. This post shows, no, that's not the case. I recall when I had the iPhone I hated it, so I shouldn't be surprised but nice to read this stuff once in a wihle (and as I posted before #iPhonefail on twitter). The folowing is a post about Android:

The other day @BenThePCGuy (a.k.a. Ben Rudolph) sought out to ease the pain smartphone users suffering from "DroidRage" after what appeared to be a massive adware outbreak on the Android Marketplace. He asked those afflicted to share their stories via Twitter. Ben would then pick the best (or worst) stories to receive a free Windows Phone.

The contest netted nearly a thousand responses. The lucky twenty will soon be receiving a free Windows Phone to help ease their frustrations. Here is a sampling of the winning submissions.
• "I REALLY wish my Galaxy Nexus would stop rebooting while I'm on the phone."
• "Android crashes even when i (try) unlock the screen..i bought it only because other phones was too expensive for me!"
• "Battery issues, freezing, worried about malware, viruses... my DroidX gives me more trouble than my 2 teenage kids!"
• "4 phones in 3 months. 3 hard resets in 6 months. I am dying alive from DROIDRAGE & cannot wait for my new windowsphone!"

You can see all the twenty winners of new Windows Phones by hitting the source link below. This is the second of such promotions (Ben did the same thing back in December) and there's not telling when the third such promotion will take place.

I wanted to point out the utter hilarity that is ensuing at BGR right now with the removal of the comments.

BGR had evolved into a parody of fake posters that at first was funny but had grown into something sad.

I think its a solid statement about the integrity of BGR that they had to resort to this.
